The Company

Extracellular is a Bristol based start-up aiming to be a global leader in sustainable biotechnology. We're channeling expertise in biology, digitalisation and biomanufacturing to accelerate sustainable and ethical novel food, materials and cosmetics products like chocolate, coffee and vanilla alternatives, produced using fermentation.

The Role

This is a 6-month fixed-term, on-site role for a Engineering technician in Bristol. You will be responsible for setting up, modifying and operating brewing kit up to 1,000L scale, and industrial downstream processing equipment such as centrifuges, spray dryers and filter presses, under the direction of our R&D manager.

The Candidate Profile

  • You will likely have experience operating industrial processing equipment in either brewing, food processing, or similar industries.
  • You'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity, shifting priorities and being proactive in finding innovative ways to move projects forward. You'll see failure as a learning opportunity.
  • You have a passion for operational excellence and a desire to build and execute tasks to a high standard. You're curious about how things work and are always looking to learn and implement modern best practices, whether in system design, control strategy, or documentation.
  • You'll need excellent organisational skills and a great attention to detail.
  • You'll need to be a genuine team-player who asks for help when it's needed and offers help when it isn't.

Opportunities

  • Training will be offered, in line with your role and responsibilities.
  • You will gain unique, full-stack experience in bioprocessing, from upstream cell production to downstream product recovery, from reverse-engineering legacy equipment to implementing novel processing techniques.
  • You will be championed to take on ownership of important processing experiments, directly seeing the impact of your work on our company's success.
