Certified Athletic Trainer Floater (One Year Only, Readvertised)

Supports the full range of athletic programs at various high schools, on an as-needed basis, by providing comprehensive athletic healthcare, including conditioning, injury prevention, injury treatment, and rehabilitation services.

This job requires regular standing, sitting, walking, keyboarding, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.

• Experience in a secondary school setting.
• Educational license with an endorsement in secondary education.

1. Advises athletes and coaching staff on techniques related to injury prevention, care, and conditioning.
2. Provides initial review of physician's physical evaluation of athlete and athlete medical history forms for indications of possible physical conditions which preclude participation in athletics.
3. Evaluates injuries/illnesses and interprets clinical findings to determine the appropriate participation status and injury rehabilitation plan.
4. Renders first aid and initial assessment during practice, home games, and away football games, when available.
5. Provides first aid and initial assessment to visiting team athletes during games and determines appropriate participation status of injured athletes.
6. Performs preventative taping, wrapping, and padding of injured areas.
7. Fits braces, guards, mouthpieces, and other protective devices, consulting with the athletic equipment staff as necessary concerning proper fit.
8. Administers CPR and emergency first aid and assists in the determination of treatment level.
9. Assists physicians on rehabilitation of injuries and other medical matters.
10. Operates therapeutic devices and equipment.
11. Maintains the inventory of appropriate first aid and medical supplies, including automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
12. Oversees and manages athletic training facilities and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition consistent with a health care facility.
13. Advises the director of student activities and coaching staff on the safety and condition of training facilities, practice, and competition sites.
14. Provides training to coaches in sports first aid as part of a Division coach education program.
15. Supervises safety factors of athletic competition by ensuring the elimination of undue hazards.
16. Acts as a liaison between and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coaches, school staff, student-athletes, families, physicians, and other community providers.
17. Consults with teachers, administrators, and other staff as needed regarding academic support for student-athletes recovering from injury.
18. Utilizes a Division-mandated record-keeping system regarding athletic injuries, treatments, and injury/illness examinations.
19. Frequent and/or occasional travel within Fairfax County.
20. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
