The Senior Specialist, Logistics & Customs Compliance will own customs compliance, international and domestic transportation, goods receiving, outbound shipping, inventory control, and warehouse operations. This role combines strategic risk management and cross-functional leadership with hands-on execution to resolve receiving, clearance, inventory, packaging, and urgent transportation issues. The ideal candidate ensures the safe, compliant, accurate, timely, and cost-effective movement of materials, spare parts, equipment, and finished vehicles in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Responsibilities

  • Customs Compliance:
    Ensure all import and export activities comply with U.S. and international customs laws, export controls, sanctions, and trade regulations; monitor regulatory changes and maintain audit-ready records.
  • Trade Documentation:
    Own HTS classification, country-of-origin determination, valuation, and required filings (ISF, commercial invoices, entry summaries); manage customs brokers and resolve holds or discrepancies.
  • Transportation & Shipping:
    Plan and manage domestic and international transportation (parcel, LTL/FTL, air, ocean, rail, car haul) to support production, service, and customer delivery needs.
  • Carrier & Broker Management:
    Lead carrier, freight forwarder, and 3PL/4PL sourcing, rate negotiation, and performance management, balancing cost, service, and compliance.
  • Goods Receiving & Outbound Operations:
    Oversee inbound receiving and outbound fulfillment, including inspection, discrepancy resolution, packing, labeling, and shipment release.
  • Inventory & Warehouse Management:
    Maintain inventory accuracy, cycle counts, and warehouse standards (FIFO, safety, 5S) across materials, spare parts, and equipment.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting:
    Partner with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, and Legal teams; track KPIs and report on compliance, cost, and delivery performance.

Requirements

  • Experience:
    3+ years of experience in customs compliance, international/domestic logistics, or warehouse operations, preferably in automotive, manufacturing, or high-tech environments.
  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Technical Skills:
    In-depth knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, HTS, ISF, Incoterms, and customs-entry processes; proficiency with SAP or other ERP/WMS/TMS systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Communication:
    Strong communication and negotiation skills to manage carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Detail Orientation:
    High attention to detail with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or U.S. Licensed Customs Broker (LCB)
    • Experience with lithium batteries, hazardous materials, or specialized/oversized transportation
    • Experience leading teams, building processes, or delivering duty-savings initiatives
    • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification
