Field AI is transforming how robots interact with the real world. We are building risk-aware, reliable, and field-ready AI systems that enable robots to operate in complex, unpredictable environments. By combining advanced AI, robotics, and real-world deployment experience, we are developing solutions that move beyond simulation and deliver measurable impact across industries.

Our systems are already deployed globally, helping customers unlock new possibilities in construction, security, mining, manufacturing, and beyond. We are building the foundation for the next generation of embodied intelligence—where robots can understand, navigate, and operate safely in the world around them.

About the Role

~1 min read

Field AI is building the future of autonomy—from rugged field environments to real-world customer deployments. We’re looking for a Mapping Solution Engineer who can bring our 3D mapping solutions to life by owning deployment, integration, and ongoing performance in the field.

This role sits at the intersection of robotics engineering, customer delivery, and technical problem-solving. You’ll work hands-on with 3D mapping systems, robots, sensors, and customer environments to ensure successful deployments while continuously improving reliability through field feedback.

You’ll collaborate closely with software engineers, robotics teams, operations, and customers to deliver mapping solutions that operate in large-scale, unstructured environments. If you enjoy building technology that leaves the lab, solving complex real-world problems, and seeing your work directly enable autonomous systems, this is your role.

Responsibilities

~1 min read
  • Design, develop, and maintain production-grade software for 3D mapping applications.
  • Deploy large-scale mapping systems and data processing pipelines into real-world environments.
  • Validate mapping systems and algorithms through testing on robots, sensors, and field deployments.
  • Build internal tooling, automation, and benchmarking infrastructure to improve reliability, performance, and repeatability.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize mapping workflows across software, hardware, and data pipelines.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of mapping data products, including data capture, processing, quality validation, and customer handoff.
  • Support on-site and remote deployments, ensuring systems are operational and performing as expected.
  • Conduct technical demonstrations, pilots, and evaluations for prospective and existing customers.
  • Partner with internal engineering teams and customers to identify issues, gather feedback, and drive improvements.
  • Develop scalable deployment processes, documentation, and best practices to improve future rollouts.
  • Translate real-world deployment challenges into actionable technical improvements.
  • Analyze field data and system performance to improve mapping reliability and customer outcomes.
  • Work across robotics, software, operations, and customer teams to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Support mission-critical robotic deployments in dynamic and unpredictable environments.
  • Master’s degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in robotics software development, 3D mapping, systems integration, or field deployment of complex technical systems.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python with experience writing production-quality software.
  • Experience with 3D geometry, point cloud processing, and algorithms such as ICP and NDT.
  • Familiarity with point cloud libraries and tools such as PCL or Open3D.
  • Experience working with LiDAR systems and 3D data formats including PCD, PLY, E57, or LAS.
  • Familiarity with ROS, Git, and Linux/Ubuntu-based development environments.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across software, hardware, and networking systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Willingness to travel and work on-site with customers as needed.
  • Experience with geospatial data, georeferencing, coordinate systems, survey control, or calibration workflows.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining mission-critical robotics or autonomous systems in real-world environments.
  • Familiarity with point cloud and survey software such as CloudCompare, Leica Cyclone, Faro Scene, or Trimble RealWorks.
  • Experience working directly with customers in high-stakes technical environments.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira, Wrike, or Confluence.
  • Background in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, or field robotics.
  • Experience working at a startup or high-growth company with a strong ownership mindset.

What We Offer
