The purpose of the Learning Services Program is to advocate for academically at-risk student-athletes in order to provide access to an equitable education.

Strategy tutors help support this purpose by working individually or in small group settings with student-athletes to develop academic and executive functioning skills. Tutors help students build effective approaches to managing academic responsibilities, completing coursework, and navigating the demands of college-level academics.

Strategy Tutors should:

  • →
    • →Provide individualized academic support and teach strategies related to time management, organization, planning, studying, test preparation, writing, and other academic skills.
    • →Help student-athletes break down complex assignments and responsibilities into manageable steps while encouraging independence and ownership of their academic work.
    • →Adapt tutoring strategies to meet the individual learning needs, strengths, and goals of each student-athlete.
    • →Build positive, professional relationships with student-athletes while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
    • →Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, Learning Services staff, Academic Advisors, and other colleagues.
    • →Maintain accurate and timely tutoring documentation and communicate relevant concerns or observations to the appropriate Learning Services staff.
    • →Demonstrate reliability and consistency in attendance and scheduled tutoring commitments.
    • →Maintain confidentiality and comply with NCAA, University of Florida, SEC, and University Athletic Association policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • →Attend required trainings, orientations, and continued education opportunities.
    • →Serve as a positive representative of the Learning Services Program and the University Athletic Association.

Can I tutor if I have another job on campus?

How will I be notified if I am considered for a tutoring position?

Applicants whose qualifications align with current Learning Services needs will be contacted by email and invited to interview with a member of the Learning Services staff.

Hiring typically takes place in the weeks leading up to the start of a new semester (i.e., late July/early August for Fall, late November/early December for Spring, and April for Summer)

If you do not hear from us, it means that your academic background or areas of expertise are not needed for the current semester. Your application will remain on file for future consideration, so there is no need to submit another application unless your qualifications or availability change.

What happens if I am hired as a Strategy Tutor?

Once a Strategy Tutor position is offered and accepted, the candidate will work with Learning Services staff to complete the UAA Human Resources onboarding process. Before beginning tutoring, new tutors must complete required online training and attend New Hire and Compliance Orientation meetings. Additional Learning Services training and professional development opportunities may also be required throughout the year.

We will carefully review application materials and match applicants with our current areas of need. Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview. Please note that applications are accepted and reviewed year-round. If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9. You will also be required to present acceptable and original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
