Works under the supervision of the E3 Children's Museum and Science Center's Manager and Education Coordinator. The primary responsibility of this position is to create engaging, educational experiences for children and families through interactive visitor engagement, exhibit facilitation, educational demonstrations, structured programs, and informal learning opportunities. Responsibilities also include facilitating birthday parties, special events, outreach programming for schools and community groups, and providing welcoming, informative visitor support throughout the museum.

Prepare supplies and materials for educational activities, demonstrations, and special events.

Lead hands-on educational activities for children and families.

Explain science, art, and other educational concepts using age-appropriate language and demonstrations.

Support school groups and facilitate activities for children of different ages and learning styles.

Assist with developing educational programs and materials for permanent and traveling exhibits.


Welcome visitors and help them feel comfortable in the museum.

Answer questions and provide information about exhibits, programs, and museum activities.

Interact with children and caregivers in exhibit spaces.

Help visitors participate in activities and explore exhibits at their own pace.

Provide support during birthday parties, school visits, and special events.


Organize program supplies and maintain activity materials.

Assist with event preparation, setup, and cleanup.

Coordinate assigned event logistics, including travel arrangements, lodging, and reimbursements.

Assist with recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers.


Assist with daily museum operations, including visitor services and the museum store.

Follow established procedures for opening, closing, safety, and customer service.

Maintain organized and welcoming program and exhibit spaces.

Communicate with supervisors and coworkers about program needs, visitor concerns, and daily responsibilities.

Develop promotional materials and social media content in collaboration with the City of Farmington Marketing Department.

Operate a motor vehicle for assigned City business.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow up testing.

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Ability to work proactively by recognizing tasks that need to be completed, preparing for upcoming programs and events, and taking appropriate action without waiting to be asked.

Ability to communicate information clearly with children, families, coworkers, and community members.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and established procedures.

Ability to organize supplies, prepare activities, and complete assigned tasks.

Ability to work with children of different ages and developmental levels.

Ability to maintain accurate records and meet assigned deadlines.

Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Experience working with children, families, schools, or community organizations.

Experience leading educational activities, demonstrations, or group programs.

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common computer applications.

Experience providing customer service or working in a public-facing environment.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Personal computer including Microsoft word, Excel, motor vehicle, calculator, copy machine, telephone, fax machine, and cash register.

The work environment can be busy and stimulating, particularly during school visits, public programs, and special events. Noise levels may range from moderate to loud, and employees may interact with multiple visitors throughout the day.
