Sr. Software Engineer, Team Lead

Our technology connects stakeholders across the specialty pharmacy ecosystem, helping prescriptions reach the right pharmacy while improving visibility, reducing friction, and keeping treatment moving forward for the patients who depend on them. At Free Market Health, our mission is to never let the process fail the patient. We build the platform that connects payers and specialty pharmacies and routes specialty medication referrals, so patients get the therapy they need. We're looking for a senior engineer who enjoys building great software and helping a team ship it together.

As a Team Lead, you'll spend most of your time hands-on: designing, building, and running production software. You'll also guide your team's delivery, shaping the work, clearing blockers, and keeping everyone moving in the same direction. Your Engineering Manager owns people management, so you can stay close to the code.

• →Design, build, test, and operate full-stack features and backend services in production.

• →Turn initiatives into clear, well-sequenced work the team can deliver.

• →Lead technical design and set the quality bar in code review.

• →Mentor engineers through pairing, review, and technical guidance.

• →Spot risk early and bring options when plans need to change.

• →Work closely with Product, domain experts, and other teams to get the right thing built.

• →Use AI-assisted development and coding agents as a core part of how you build, and help your team do the same.

• →Take part in triage and coordinate the team when an incident needs more hands.

• →Interview candidates and help onboard new engineers.

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with end-to-end ownership of production systems.

• Experience as a team lead, tech lead, project lead, or the engineer a team relies on to organize ambiguous work.

• Strong backend development skills in Python or a similar language, plus experience with web frontends such as React.

• Experience with microservices, REST APIs, relational databases, and cloud platforms.

• Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code on real delivery work.

• Clear communication and a habit of raising problems early.

• Healthcare technology experience, especially specialty pharmacy, PBM, payer, or claims integrations.

• Experience with Microsoft Azure, SQL Server, Azure Service Bus, Databricks, or Datadog.

• Familiarity with HIPAA, HITRUST, or SOC 2.
