ProFound Therapeutics is seeking an innovative and highly motivated Co-Op with experience in protein biochemistry and/or mass spectrometry to play a vital role in the company’s Proteomics team. Under the supervision of senior scientists on the Proteomics team, this individual will receive structured training and hands-on experience in proteomics sample preparation, LC-MS/MS analysis, and the development of workflows for challenging protein classes. This individual will contribute scientific and technical expertise to a multidisciplinary team, emphasizing conceptualization, experimentation, data analysis, presentation, and strategic planning. The ideal candidate for this position will have coursework or early research experience in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, cell biology, or a related discipline and be enthusiastic and capable of working in a multidisciplinary (e.g. genomics, bioinformatics, protein biochemistry) team in the biosciences. The candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced entrepreneurial setting. The Co-Op is designed to complement the candidate’s academic training and provide exposure to industry-based research and therapeutic development.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as a contributor to the Proteomics team, whose mission is to discover new therapeutics and validate new therapeutic targets

Support the development of workflows using alternative proteases to improve protein sequence coverage and detection of challenging proteins

Assist with the optimization of surfaceome enrichment and profiling of cell-surface and membrane proteins

Assist with the optimization of secretome proteomics workflows for conditioned media, including strategies to minimize serum interference and intracellular contamination

Assist with the optimization of ubiquitylation screening, including enrichment and analysis of ubiquitin-remnant peptides

Perform proteomics sample preparation, LC-MS/MS analysis, data interpretation, and quality control, supported by senior scientists

Troubleshoot methods, document results, and contribute to establishing reproducible protocols

Organize and maintain experimental records in Benchling for review

Report experimental plans and results to the scientific team

Proactively review literature to contribute to new ideas and methods/technologies for discovery and therapeutic areas
Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biochemistry, chemistry, analytical chemistry, cell biology, or a related field

Coursework or hands-on laboratory experience in protein biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, or mass spectrometry, and attention to detail

Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner

Strong collaborative skills with evidence of working in a team

Prior industry or academic research co-op experience in proteomics, protein biochemistry, or mass spectrometry

Experience with LC-MS/MS sample preparation

Coursework or research exposure to membrane proteins, secretome analysis, or post-translational modification (PTM) enrichment

Familiarity with proteomics data analysis software

Confident execution, focused and team-oriented with an ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment

Experience with data analysis using Graphpad Prism and Microsoft Excel
