Cognos and SSRS Specialist

The Role The Financial Reporting Specialist will be responsible for obtaining report requirements and preparing and delivering insightful financial Advertising reports for Hearst Newspapers at the Corporate level and the local market level. The position will also need to understand and modify existing reports as requested by the business users. Excellent communication skills are a must for the position because of the need to directly interact with business users to gather requirements and work with the users to validate and ensure the accuracy of the reports. Specific Responsibilities: Create/modify Cognos and SSRS reports as requested by the business users. Schedule queries to run automatically and set up to email reports to recipients. Modify the Cognos framework on an infrequent basis. Develop Informer queries to report on data from Naviga Ad. Explore and recommend other reporting tools that can replace Cognos. Prepares and presents written and oral presentations. Keeps management apprised of project status. Other duties as assigned. Mandatory skills: Cognos 11 and SSRS with 5 to 6 yrs of relevant experience Experience in Informer queries Individual Contributor Excellent and Effective communication and presentation skills Client Interaction for requirement elicitation experience is must Desired skills: PowerBI Reporting, Database understanding (SQL Server, Oracle, UniData), Best practices for creating reports Requirements General Skills: Strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively communicate with organizational personnel to define problems and present solutions at all levels of the organization. Strong interpersonal, presentation, written and oral communication skills. Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to translate customer requirements into specifications. Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines. Comfortable in rapidly changing and sometimes ambiguous work situations. Possesses strategic thinking combined with tactical project planning and management skills. Specific Skills: Strong skills creating and maintaining Cognos queries using Cognos 11 required. Experience developing/updating Cognos framework packages using Cognos 11. Possesses skills and experience using SSRS and SQL queries. Experience developing reports with PowerBI is desired. Skills using Informer and other reporting tools a plus. Understanding of databases (SQL Server, Oracle and UniData) is desired. Knowledgeable of best practices for the creation of reports. Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology or other related field. IBM Cognos Designer Certification a plus. 4+ years’ experience developing Cognos framework packages and Cognos queries.
