Materials Technician - Casual (26062)

GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Materials Technician to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a casual Materials Technician in our Fredericton, NB office.  Hours will vary based on client needs.

Main Duties:

• Collect samples and perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.
• Compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete;
• Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens;
• Conduct inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations.
• Prepare detailed and accurate field reports for use by project managers and engineers.
• Maintain effective communication with project teams, providing regular updates on field activities and findings.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
• Collaborate with the project team to troubleshoot and resolve any materials-related issues.
• Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
• Capability to walk and engage in fieldwork for extended periods across occasionally challenging terrain, as well as the ability to transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Identify and mitigate potential hazards in the field, promoting a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Previous experience in materials testing and inspection is preferred.
• Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.
• CCIL Certifications in testing of asphalt, concrete, aggregates, and soils.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Position:

• Casual employment
• 0 - 37.5 hours/week (varies with client workload)
