Comec is looking to add highly motivated, skilled Certified Heavy Duty Mechanic to our growing company. The Mechanic duties include assisting personnel, general site duties, working with equipment and working on client sites. The rotation is 5/2 Tuesday to Saturday, 10-hour days.  Competitive wages based on experience.
The Heavy Duty Mechanic is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy trucks and related heavy equipment including Combo Vac, Straight Vac, Semi Vac, Tank Truck, Pressure Truck and Hydro Vac and other pieces of equipment as assigned. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders, but the employee is expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.
General Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Ensure customer and client satisfaction by following all client regulations/rules and providing excellent customer service at all times.
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork and documentation properly within set timelines; this includes accurate maintenance reports and documentation, work tickets, JSA’s, hazard id’s and daily time sheets.
  • Follow all local, provincial and federal compliance regulations and rules, follow company policies and procedures for routine maintenance, perform general housekeeping to ensure units are operating properly and report any inefficiency.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to environmental compliance and safe work procedures.
  • Diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment 
  • Performs mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required
  • Diagnose, repair and maintain multiple equipment types; this includes Combo Vac, Straight Vac, Semi Vac, Tank Truck, Pressure Truck and Hydro Vac.


 
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques
  • Follow Lead Mechanic directions
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

Qualifications include:
 
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Certified Heavy-Duty Mechanic Trade in good standing in Alberta
  • Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations
  • Good, positive attitude, with the ability to accept last minute changes to schedule.
  • Indoor and outdoor work. Work outdoors in harsh weather conditions.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision, be highly motivated, energetic, and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • Due to hazards associated with the position this position is safety sensitive and subject to drug & alcohol testing; this includes pre access, post incident, reasonable cause and random testing
  • General oilfield experience is an asset.
  • Must be willing to learn. 
  • Possess CSO, H2S Alive, First Aid, Confined Space 1 or 2, Fall arrest, TDG, all other tickets an asset
  • Ability to participate and process daily safety paper work

  • Safety Certification
    • CSO, H2S Alive, 1st Aid, TDG, WHMIS mandatory
    • Confined Space, CSTS, Fall Protection maybe required
    • Any client specific required courses
    • Other courses as deemed necessary



Physical requirements

Certified Heavy Duty Mechanics should be mechanically inclined and physically fit to work in all kinds of weather.  This position: 
  • Ability to regularly handle and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to pass a medical fit for work exam
  • Ability to pass a pre-access Drug & Alcohol test
