The Mill Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and performance of the milling operation, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective processing of ore to meet production targets and business objectives. The role oversees all mill functions, including operational planning, budgeting, workforce management, resource allocation, and cost control, while driving continuous improvement in productivity, recovery, quality, and operational performance. The Mill Manager analyzes processing and production data to develop and implement operational strategies, optimize plant performance, and support informed decision-making. Working closely with the senior leadership team, the role contributes to the development and execution of the site's operational strategy, ensuring alignment with company objectives, policies, and long-term growth plans.
Working Conditions
The Mill Manager works in a mining and mineral processing environment, balancing office-based responsibilities with regular presence in operational areas. The role involves exposure to plant equipment, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions, requiring strict adherence to health, safety, and PPE requirements. Extended hours may be required to support production objectives and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
1. To oversee and implement mill production programs and operations to maximize production efficiency and resources.

- Develop an overall strategy for mill development and production based on input from other departments including targets, goals and priorities.
- Direct the execution and implementation of the mill plans and targets.
- Develop and direct the implementation of operational programs, processes and policies to meet organizational governance requirements and standards.
- Set mill production budget using information from the overall mine budget and business plan targets.
- Establish production targets, ensure mill throughput matches the mining plan and correct or address issues as they arise.
- Liaison with the Security Department to minimize security risks associated with precious metal processing
- Investigate options and recommend short- and long-term projects and approaches to enhance efficiency and cost effectiveness of mill operations.
2. Act as a member of the management team to establish the overall strategy for the mine.

- Liaise with the management team to set the direction and establish the mid- to long-term operations and project development plans for the mill department.
- Provide advice to the management team regarding the development and implementation of the overall Mill budget.
- Provide expert advice throughout the site on mill processes and practices.
3. Provide leadership to the Mill team.

- Build an appropriate team through recruitment and development.
- Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required to achieve business plans and production targets.
- Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the current and future requirements of the mill.
- Ensure the required manpower and equipment is in place to achieve forecasted production, while meeting budgeted costs.
- Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, providing feedback and coaching to direct reports.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 12 years of mill related experience.
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience at a supervisory level.
Education/Certification/Designation
- University degree in Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering or related degree.
- Professional designation or certification in a related area.
Technical Skills/Knowledge

- Solid working knowledge of milling methods and procedures.
- Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines and milling plants.
- Computer literate: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Oracle, MS Project
- Experience and knowledge of :
- Health & Safety Management
- Emergency Response
- ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
- A sound knowledge of mining and mineral processing practices and principles
- A strong background in equipment repair and maintenance & maintenance management
- Ability to interact with employees from entry level positions to Corporate officers & executives
- To lead by example while imparting required technical and ethical knowledge
- The ability to work in remote third world location for > 50% of the year
- The ability to adapt or deal with social and political issues associated with a third world environment
