About Goldfish Swim School
At Goldfish Swim School, we're passionate about helping children build confidence, develop essential water safety skills, and have fun in the water! We provide swim lessons for children ages 4 months to 12 years in a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environment.

As we continue to grow and expand into new markets, we're looking for an experienced Facility Maintenance & Construction Manager to help us maintain our existing schools while bringing new locations to life!

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, solutions-oriented professional who enjoys managing construction projects, solving complex facility challenges, and playing a key role in a growing organization.

About the Role
The Facility Maintenance & Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of our existing Goldfish Swim School locations while also managing the construction and development of future schools.

This position combines facilities management, hands-on maintenance, construction project oversight, contractor coordination, and strategic planning.

You'll serve as a key point of contact throughout the new school development process, working closely with company leadership, franchise partners, architects, general contractors, and vendors to ensure new locations are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with Goldfish Swim School brand standards.

In addition to overseeing new construction projects, you'll ensure our existing facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained, supporting daily operations and minimizing disruptions.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience managing new franchise location builds from planning through opening, along with a strong technical background in aquatic facility maintenance and construction.

What You'll Do

Multi-Location Facility Maintenance & Operations
  • Oversee the physical condition, safety, and operational readiness of all assigned Goldfish Swim School locations.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules for building systems, pool equipment, and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building systems.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs as needed, while determining when specialized contractors or vendors are required.
  • Respond to urgent facility issues that may disrupt school operations or create safety concerns.
  • Partner with General Managers, school leaders, and operations leadership to prioritize maintenance needs and coordinate solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve facility efficiency, extend equipment life, and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Pool & Aquatic Systems Management
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of pool pumps, filtration systems, heaters, circulation equipment, and chemical treatment systems.
  • Troubleshoot pool water chemistry, circulation, and equipment issues.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs of HVAC and dehumidification systems specific to indoor aquatic environments.
  • Oversee larger aquatic facility projects, including pool resurfacing, equipment replacements, and mechanical system upgrades.
  • Ensure pool facilities meet applicable health, safety, and water quality regulations.
  • Work with school management teams to maintain consistent pool maintenance practices and equipment reliability.

Vendor, Contractor & Budget Management
  • Source, evaluate, and manage contractors and vendors for both new construction and ongoing facility maintenance.
  • Review bids, proposals, contracts, and service agreements to evaluate scope, pricing, timelines, and quality.
  • Monitor construction and maintenance budgets, track expenses, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Hold contractors and vendors accountable for project deliverables, quality standards, and agreed-upon timelines.
  • Maintain relationships with reliable service providers across all assigned markets.
  • Coordinate capital improvement projects, facility renovations, and major equipment replacements at existing locations.

Safety, Compliance & Project Documentation
  • Ensure existing facilities and new construction projects meet applicable building codes, health regulations, safety requirements, and company standards.
  • Coordinate required inspections, certifications, and approvals throughout the construction and facility maintenance processes.
  • Maintain organized records of construction plans, permits, inspections, warranties, vendor agreements, maintenance activities, and equipment repairs.
  • Provide regular updates to company leadership regarding construction progress, project budgets, facility conditions, and outstanding maintenance needs.
  • Develop and implement standardized procedures to support consistent facility quality and maintenance practices across locations.

New Construction & Franchise Development
  • Oversee the construction and build-out process for new Goldfish Swim School locations, from initial planning and pre-construction through final inspections, turnover, and opening.
  • Partner with company leadership, franchise representatives, architects, engineers, general contractors, and vendors throughout the development process.
  • Monitor construction progress, budgets, milestones, and deliverables to ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Conduct regular construction site visits to evaluate progress, identify potential issues, and ensure quality standards are being met.
  • Coordinate with contractors and local authorities regarding permitting, inspections, building codes, and occupancy requirements.
  • Manage construction punch lists, final walkthroughs, and project closeout documentation.
  • Coordinate the transition from construction to operations, ensuring new facilities are fully functional, safe, and ready for staff training and school opening.
  • Support warranty management and post-opening construction-related repairs or adjustments.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • Experience overseeing new franchise location construction and build-outs is required, including coordinating projects from pre-construction through opening.
  • 5-10 years of combined experience in commercial construction management, facilities management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple construction or facility projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction processes, including permitting, inspections, contractor coordination, project scheduling, and budget management.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building systems.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, project specifications, contractor proposals, and service agreements.
  • Proven ability to manage general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and other external partners.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with company leadership, contractors, franchise representatives, and school management teams.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation with the ability to travel frequently between locations and construction sites.
  • Familiarity with indoor aquatic facilities, swimming pool mechanical systems, and commercial dehumidification equipment.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of employment, with certification costs covered by the company.
  • Technical certifications, vocational training, or a degree in construction management, facilities management, engineering, or a related field.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Frequent travel between existing Goldfish Swim School locations, new construction sites, and assigned markets.
  • Combination of on-site construction oversight, hands-on facility maintenance, and administrative/project management responsibilities.
  • Ability to visit active construction sites, climb ladders, access mechanical rooms, and perform facility inspections.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when performing maintenance-related tasks.
  • Exposure to construction environments, pool chemicals, mechanical equipment, and varying indoor/outdoor conditions.
  • Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required for urgent facility issues or operational emergencies.
