Position Purpose
The Shop Laborer supports daily manufacturing operations by maintaining clean and organized work areas, assisting operators, handling materials, and completing general shop tasks. This position helps the team work safely and efficiently while protecting equipment, materials, and product quality.
Responsibilities
Own Safety in Daily Work
•
Take ownership of personal safety and help maintain a safe shop by following Goodfellow procedures, wearing required personal protective equipment, and stopping work when conditions are unsafe.
•
Inspect work areas and assigned equipment before use and report hazards, damage, spills, or unsafe conditions promptly.
•
Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment only when trained and authorized.
•
Use approved lifting, material-handling, machine-guarding, and housekeeping practices at all times.
Maintain the Facility and Supplies
•
Clean and organize shop floors, workstations, aisles, storage areas, and shared spaces according to established standards.
•
Remove scrap, debris, and waste using approved disposal and recycling practices.
•
Monitor cleaning and shop supplies and notify the supervisor when items need to be replenished.
•
Keep emergency equipment, exits, electrical panels, and travel paths accessible.
Support Operators and Production
•
Assist operators with material movement, staging, setup, cleanup, and other assigned tasks.
•
Move, sort, and stage materials carefully to prevent injury, damage, or production delays.
•
Follow verbal and written work instructions and ask questions when requirements are unclear.
•
Learn new tasks and provide general operational support as production priorities change.

Qualifications
•
High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
•
Ability to learn new tasks, follow instructions, and understand basic shop and production processes.
•
Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a changing production environment.
•
Forklift, material-handling, or fabrication-machinery experience is highly valued; required certifications may be completed after hire.
•
Ability to communicate hazards, shortages, and work concerns promptly and clearly.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position works in an active manufacturing environment and may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, moving machinery, forklifts, sharp materials, temperature changes, and outdoor weather. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, grasp, push, and pull; and safely lift and move up to 75 pounds, using assistance or approved equipment when appropriate. Required personal protective equipment must be worn.
Travel and Schedule
This is a full-time position. No routine travel is expected. Overtime or schedule changes may be required based on production needs.
Work Authorization and Security Clearance
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Goodfellow Corporation does not provide employment visa sponsorship for this position. No security clearance is required.
