Are you the kind of person who sees a storm on the horizon and immediately starts thinking about how to explain the "why" and "when" to your neighbors? WHSV is looking for a high-energy Meteorologist to join our award-winning First Alert Weather Team in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. This isn't just about reading the models; it’s about owning the weather narrative across every platform—from our weekend evening newscasts to the palm of our viewers' hands.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

- Live the "First Alert" brand: Embody our commitment to being the most trusted, local weather source in the Valley and our West Virginia viewing area with urgency and accuracy. We keep our viewers updated every step of the way, giving them the information they need to plan days in advance.
- Own the weekend evenings: Create and deliver compelling, conversational on-air forecasts for our 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. newscasts that keep viewers informed and safe.
- Drive digital weather: Don't just wait for the linear hit; engage our audience on social media, our weather app, and streaming platforms throughout the week.
- Tell the weather story: Spend your weekdays digging into weather-related content, whether that’s field reporting on local climate impacts or creating innovative graphics that make complex science simple.
- Collaborate and innovate: Work closely with our news and digital teams to ensure our weather coverage is seamless, multi-platform, and always ahead of the curve.
- Learn from the best: You'll get the chance to receive feedback from our award-winning weather team, which has 20 years of combined experience in the industry.

- A degree in meteorology and a background in broadcast communications/journalism preferred
- Unstoppable motivation: You have a genuine passion for meteorology and a relentless drive to communicate the forecast wherever the audience is.
- A digital-first mindset: You’re as comfortable going live or posting on social media as you are in front of the studio camera.
- Creative storytelling: You don't just show maps; you tell a story that connects the data to people's lives (and you’ve got the ideas to prove it!).
- Independence and teamwork: You can crush a solo shift but also thrive in a collaborative "weather center" environment. You bring a positive attitude to our team's strong work culture.
- Technical chops: You know your way around weather graphics systems and are ready to push the limits of what they can do.
- Urgency and calm: You handle severe weather with the perfect mix of "get-to-the-basement" urgency and "I’ve got this" authority while being able to make decisions quickly.
- Ability to work all shifts (we have newscasts beginning at 5:00 a.m. and going until 11:30 p.m.; must be able to work all those hours/shifts when needed), including during snow and severe weather events.
