Position Overview: Assistant Manager in Training (AMIT) The Assistant Manager in Training (AMIT) is structured as a direct pathway to center leadership. In this role, you will work alongside experienced leadership to master center operations, customer relations, team management, and advanced automotive services. You will act as second-in-command, stepping in to manage center operations in the Center Manager's absence while developing the skills required to run a successful Grease Monkey location.
Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership Development & Supervision:

    • Train directly under the Center Manager to learn all aspects of center administration, staff supervision, and daily operational decision-making.

    • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, ongoing training, performance reviews, scheduling, time-card accuracy, and payroll preparation.

    • Help resolve employee relations issues and maintain a safe, collaborative team culture.

  • Customer Relations & Service Flow:

    • Welcome customers promptly and professionally, clearly communicating service requirements, options, and pricing throughout their visit.

    • Present key maintenance components (e.g., air filters, cabin filters, radiator caps) for customer inspection.

    • Keep customers informed of wait times in a clean, comfortable, and safe lobby environment.

    • Review Service Order Tickets, warranty details, and free top-off programs thoroughly during check-out, reminding departing customers to leave feedback.

    • Handle customer complaints and claim resolutions professionally.

  • Center Operations & Administration:

    • Monitor service bay workflow to ensure fast, precise execution and strict adherence to quality checks.

    • Learn POS system management, close-out procedures, daily bank deposits, and required weekly/monthly recordkeeping.

    • Track inventory levels, place orders, conduct bi-monthly inventory corrections, and perform monthly counts.

    • Complete weekly administrative tasks, including callback logs, address updates, and required compliance postings (OSHA, MSDS).

  • Technical & Shop Duties:

    • Perform Lead Technician responsibilities and assist in training shop personnel across all service levels.

    • Execute automotive services including oil changes, brake/rotor work, transmission/differential services, cooling system flushes, and basic component replacements.

    • Perform courtesy, hood, and pit tech duties, ensuring all preventive maintenance and final safety inspections meet company standards.

    • Maintain site cleanliness, facility upkeep (restrooms, windows, grounds, snow/ice removal), and proper tool/equipment maintenance.

  • Local Marketing & Business Growth:

    • Assist in community engagement, local center marketing initiatives, fleet account solicitation, and sending customer thank-you notes.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience as a quick lube automotive center technician. Prior experience in retail, quick lube, or customer-facing management/supervision is strongly preferred.

  • Skills: Strong customer service, verbal communication, and basic computing abilities; fundamental reading, writing, and math skills.

  • Licensing & Mechanical Capability: Valid driver’s license and ability to operate motor vehicles safely. Proficient with standard mechanical hand tools.

  • Environment: Frequent exposure to outdoor weather elements, elevated noise levels, and vehicle exhaust fumes.

  • Physical Demands: Requires standing for long periods, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling tools, and lifting.
