Staff Engineer

You'll serve as a technical leader and force multiplier for one of our engineering squads at Jove. As a Staff Engineer, you'll guide and unblock senior engineers while shaping technical direction for our case management platform used by personal injury law firms. 

What You'll Do 

• Guide and unblock Senior Engineers on complex technical challenges 

• Lead technical design and architecture decisions for major features 

• Collaborate with the Director of Engineering and Product team on long-term technical strategy 

• Review code and provide technical mentorship across your squad 

• Drive engineering best practices around testing, observability, and code quality 

• Participate in daily standups and bi-weekly sprint planning sessions 

• Ship code alongside your team while maintaining technical leadership responsibilities 

• Identify and resolve technical debt and performance bottlenecks 

• Contribute to infrastructure decisions and GitOps workflows 

• Ensure features are properly instrumented for monitoring and debugging 
  

Who You'll Work With 

• Report directly to the Director of Engineering 

• Lead and mentor a squad of 5-6 Senior and Associate Engineers 

• Partner with the other Staff Engineers and Project Manager on cross-squad initiatives 

• Meet regularly with Product Managers and Designers on long-term roadmap planning 

• Collaborate with the QA Engineer on your squad to ensure quality standards 

• Engage with the Director of Engineering and Project Manager on technical strategy 

What We're Looking For 

• Extensive experience building and scaling production web applications 

• Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and full-stack development 

• Proven track record of technical leadership and mentoring engineers 

• Strong architectural and system design skills
