Summary/Objective: Promotes the company mission statement by joining the Project Manager as a team who collaborate to create a safe work environment, build a quality project and keep projects on schedule while earning a fair and reasonable profit.
Essential Functions:
- Act as the main contact for the project at the jobsite.
- Oversee the project to make all critical field decisions.
- Oversee the project to ensure proper project decisions.
- Logistics, staging and phasing.
- Quality control.
- Employee staffing levels.
- Ability to communicate with Owner and Architect/Engineer relating to field issues.
- Understand issues and assist in resolution.
- Knowing the proper time to involve Owners and Architects and Engineers.
- Leadership regarding Harper BIG 6:
- Safety/SOAR.
- Core.
- Procurement/Scheduling.
- Pre-Install Meetings.
- Exterior Skin Systems Meetings.
- Utility strike prevention plan.
- Oversee the Project Safety
- Ensure Harper safety requirements are explained, implemented, and demonstrated.
- Develop and implement working relationship with Safety Manager.
- Project specific safety pre-planning.
- Coordinate with Safety Manager to develop a project site specific SOAR Orientation Document.
- Soar Implementation – if allowing other Harper staff to conduct orientations ensure proper message and execution of the document.
- OSHA standards are understood and followed based on the actions of workers on the job site.
- Perform weekly Toolbox Talks with all active trades.
- Conduct Safety Stand down Training as necessary.
- Participate in the timely and effective investigations of all incidents including injuries, property damage, behavioral issues and near misses.
- Conduct weekly site safety inspections in Procore.
- Ensure an accurate and up to date procurement log.
- Ensure and is responsible for creating Schedules alongside PM.
- Develop and manage (takes the lead) on project QAQC.
- QA example:
- Pre-installation meetings.
- QC example:
- Visual and documents inspections of work in place.
- Oversee coordination of all Trade Partners.
- Project site specific logistics/use including associated rules.
- Scheduling of each trade.
- Developing and implementing recovery strategies to maintain project schedule.
- Clarity of design versus installation (RFI’s).
- Schedule for the trades (durations and commitments of durations).
- Supervise field staff to ensure staff development.
- Manage timesheets for field staff.
- Manage and complete all daily reports.
- Manage all jobsite equipment.
- Have working knowledge of local building codes.
- Have working knowledge of all ADA code requirements.
- Ensure implementation of all required inspections for the project.
- Ensure by documenting and executing a proper Harper punch list prior to inviting Owner and Design Team punch list.
- Estimating and Preconstruction:
- Can effectively assist in Harper’s efforts regarding estimating, scheduling, interviewing, etc.
- Procore:
- Fill-In Daily Log.
- Read commitment scopes of work and understand content.
- Navigate and understand how to utilize directory.
- Utilize and understand all functions of the drawings tab.
- Recent Drawings.
- Overlay function of previous drawings.
- Attachments to drawings.
- Create inspections.
- Know where and how to utilize information from meeting minutes.
- Create and track an observation.
- Utilize the photos application.
- Create and maintain the punch list.
- Create an RFI for review by Superintendent and seek RFI information where applicable.
- Know where to find the schedule, read and understand.
- Understand how to navigate and seek information from Specs tool.
- Understand how to navigate and seek information from Submittals.
- Ability to enter timesheet in Procore.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise field staff to ensure staff development. This includes Assistant Superintendents, Foreman, Field Engineers, and Interns. Also includes assisting in the development of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
Education and Experience:
MINIMUM:
10 years of jobsite supervision experience.

- Includes five plus years as a Superintendent with an Industrial focus – tilt-up or precast construction, pre-engineered metal buildings as well as automotive, distribution, manufacturing, and/or food and beverage projects.
REQUIRED:
-
- Earthwork/Grading – must understand how to interpret grading plans, cut/fill analysis, geotechnical reports, underground utilities, and construction means and methods.
- Concrete and steel structures – deep understanding of how to procure steel packages, read and verify steel shop drawings, and coordinate with other design. Must have knowledge of ACI, ASTM, and AISC standards.
- Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Sprinkler – deep understanding of MEPF design and installation methods.
- Scheduling:
- Ability to understand and create an Overall Project Schedule.
- Includes understanding critical milestone dates.
- Ability to understand and update an active Construction Schedule.
- Includes understanding the critical path and its changes.
- Ability to lead a pull a schedule and update a Work Plan.
- Ability to understand material delivery dates and when they are required.
- Ability to understand and create an Overall Project Schedule.
- Can effectively navigate and resolve conflicts regarding design:
- With Trade Partners and Architects/Engineers.
- Knows when to RFI an issue or resolve effectively.
- With Trade Partners and Architects/Engineers.
- Can effectively run a Trade Partner and OAC coordination meeting.
- Includes setting and maintaining an agenda.
- Understand critical issues for meeting and run meeting effectively.
- Can effectively solve clashes and conflicts of building systems in a manner that does not compromise the engineered basis of design.
- Also show the ability to understand when documentation is required related to drawing and specification updates and/or cost impacts.
- Develop and supervise an effective QAQC program.
- Proven track record of a strong safety culture on the jobsite – is a leader in safety.
- Experience building from the ground up on more than 5 projects as a Superintendent.
- Understand construction means and methods for all scopes of work.
- Ability to communicate and develop relationships with City, Local Agencies and Utility representatives.
- Demonstrate a thorough and detailed understanding of Plans and Specs.
PREFERRED:

- OSHA 30 certified.
- Experience with plant systems such as process piping, compressed air systems, chilled/cooled water systems, and high voltage electrical systems.
- Supervise a project utilizing BIM technologies:
- Coordinate a 3d design for conflicts.
- Coordinate a 3d design layout in the field.
- Utilize BIM Glue and Navisworks software when appropriate to assist with BIM process on a project.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.
Physical Demands: The Superintendent is required to work in a variety of conditions relative to construction jobsite environments and must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, as assigned. Weather and climate conditions will vary throughout the progress of a project and the Superintendent must be able to inspect all ongoing construction activities over the duration of the assigned project. This role requires walking over varied terrain, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting. Lifting requirements vary from minimal loads to heavy; but help is always available with heavier loads. Inspection for quality, consistency and completeness of work frequently requires climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
Travel Required: Travel to/from multiple jobsites, projects, and offices. Minimal overnight or weekend travel. Driving a company-owned vehicle is required to perform duties. A valid state-issued license, satisfactory motor vehicle record, safe driving behavior, and adherence to our Driving and Truck Policy are required.
