Develop your mechanical skills in an entry-level Technician Apprentice position with HART. Reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor, you will perform beginner-level maintenance and repairs on transit buses, mechanical equipment and automotive vehicles powered by gasoline, compressed natural gas (CNG) and diesel. You will also assist more experienced mechanics with complex repairs.

• Gain practical experience with vehicle systems that support public transportation.
• Work alongside experienced mechanics on maintenance and repair assignments.
• Build experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and field repairs.

• →Perform beginner-level maintenance and repairs, including engine adjustments and work on braking, shock absorber, suspension, electrical and hydraulic systems and components.
• →Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting inspections to identify repair needs.
• →Road-test vehicles after repairs are completed.
• →Perform some service calls and emergency repairs in the field.
• →Maintain records of the work you complete.
• →Assist more experienced mechanics with difficult and complex maintenance and repair tasks.
• →Perform other related duties as assigned.

• A high school diploma or GED certificate.
• A valid Florida Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire or moving to Florida.
• Basic knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used to maintain, remove, repair, overhaul and replace diesel or gasoline engines and transmissions; air conditioning and heating systems; electrical systems; brakes; and air systems.
• Knowledge of job-related occupational hazards, precautions and safety requirements.
• Ability to operate maintenance equipment safely and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to interact effectively with a variety of personalities and perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance when needed.
• Ability to work various shifts, hours and days and meet attendance requirements.

• Graduation from a diesel or mechanical technical school.

A Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B, with a Passenger (P) endorsement is required for promotion to a mechanic position.

Use general maintenance and shop tools to complete assigned work.

• Frequently walk, sit, stand and squat; duties also involve bending, reaching and stooping.
• Lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds during assigned tasks and occasionally lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
• Use hearing, speaking, near and far visual acuity, depth perception, color vision and perception of texture throughout assigned duties. Visual acuity is necessary to perform all duties.
• Work in all weather conditions and encounter occasional extreme noise at 85 decibels or higher in shop areas.
• May be exposed to mechanical hazards, dangerous machinery, fumes, odors, paints, chemical hazards, extreme weather and risks of physical harm.
• May interact with potentially intimidating or unreceptive members of the public.
