WVTM, the NBC affiliate in Birmingham, AL, is looking for a Senior Executive Producer who can lead content execution across all platforms, oversee dayside newscasts, and coach newsroom leaders in a fast-paced, collaborative news environment. This position reports to the News Director.

The Senior Executive Producer is responsible for the overall quality and presentation of our content in our newscasts and on our digital platforms. As the leader for content execution, the SEP serves as the "air traffic controller" for daily news execution—coordinating editorial priorities, breaking news coverage, production resources, and newsroom workflow to ensure we meet the highest standards for storytelling, urgency, and presentation.

You must be able to manage, coach, and motivate Executive Producers, producers, and newsroom staff committed to excellence across broadcast, streaming, digital, and social platforms.

A strong editorial voice, sound news judgment, and an aggressive coverage style are required. You must have the proven ability to make ethical decisions under pressure, lead breaking news coverage, and elevate the performance of those you supervise through coaching and mentorship.

The ideal candidate thrives in breaking news situations and, when news is slower, can identify compelling, promotable stories that engage audiences across every platform while teaching others to do the same.

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall presentation, quality, and execution of all newscasts for on-air and digital platforms.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of Executive Producers, producers, and daily newsroom production.
  • Coach Executive Producers and line producers to strengthen editorial judgment, storytelling, writing, and leadership skills.
  • Coach anchors, reporters, and photojournalists to improve content, storytelling, and presentation.
  • Review and oversee rundowns, scripts, pacing, and overall newscast execution to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Lead the newsroom's response to breaking news, coordinating coverage, staffing, and production priorities under deadline.
  • Serve as the newsroom's central coordinator for daily content production, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Oversee planning and execution of the newsroom's sweeps strategy, special coverage, and promotable content initiatives.
  • Help recruit, develop, evaluate, and retain top-producing talent.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the newsroom and partner departments.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of television news producing experience.
  • Previous newsroom management or leadership experience preferred.
  • Exceptional writing, editorial, and storytelling skills.
  • Proven experience coaching and developing newsroom talent.
  • Demonstrated success leading breaking news coverage and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong news judgment and exceptional editorial decision-making.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, coordinate teams, and lead under pressure.
  • Creative approach to storytelling and showcasing all production resources.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to coaching, collaboration, and developing newsroom leaders.
  • Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
  • Related military experience will be considered
