Engine Production Machinist

• →Operation of SV-30 hone, including installation of hone deck plates. Recording essential data including bore sizes and surface finish measurements.
• →Create or modify 3-axis or greater CNC programs for production runs including entering instructions, setting tool registers, and calculating requirements.
• →Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
• →Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• →Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
• →Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
• →Stop machines to remove finished work pieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences.
• →Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
• →Input initial part dimensions into machine control panels.
• →Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue production.
• →Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
• →Clean machines, tooling, or parts using solvents or solutions and rags. Also responsible for cleaning the shop and ensuring safe housekeeping on an ongoing basis.
• →Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments.
• →Set, monitor, and modify tolerance levels and cutting speeds to produce the component or part to specification.
• →Inspect produced components or parts to ensure quality and accuracy.
• →Must be able to use tools, such as lathes, mills, cutters, and grinders as needed to perform required requested work.
• →Other duties assigned by management.

• Must be a team player and effectively utilize strong communication skills with others in the department and organization.
• Requires extensive knowledge of hand tools, drill press, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
• Sunnen SV-30 Cylinder Hone or equivalent experience needed.

Physical Demands:

• Requires vision (near, peripheral, depth), sense of touch, and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – hearing protection, safety glasses, and hand protection.
• Constantly stands, lifts/carries 10 pounds or less, and pushes/pulls 12 pounds or less. Frequently reaches outward, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds.
• Occasionally walks, sits, reaches above shoulder, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to and over 100 pounds.

• The position requires regular and predictable attendance.
• Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
