EHS Environmental Technician

The Environmental Technician supports environmental compliance programs by monitoring facility operations, conducting environmental inspections, maintaining permits and records, assisting with wastewater and stormwater management, managing hazardous waste activities, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This position partners closely with operations, maintenance, quality, and EHS leadership to minimize environmental risks and support sustainable manufacturing practices.

• Support compliance with EPA, state environmental agencies, and local regulatory requirements.
• Maintain environmental permits, licenses, and required documentation.
• Assist with environmental reporting and recordkeeping requirements.
• Participate in internal and external environmental audits and inspections.
• Monitor compliance with facility environmental management systems.

• Collect and document wastewater discharge data and sampling results.
• Monitor wastewater treatment systems and pretreatment equipment.
• Conduct stormwater inspections and outfall evaluations.
• Assist with Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).
• Investigate permit exceedances and support corrective actions.

• Manage hazardous waste accumulation areas and storage requirements.
• Coordinate waste characterization, labeling, manifesting, and disposal activities.
• Conduct inspections of chemical storage areas and secondary containment systems.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventories.
• Ensure compliance with hazardous waste regulations.

• Perform routine environmental inspections throughout manufacturing and warehouse facilities.
• Verify proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and waste streams.
• Identify environmental risks and recommend corrective actions.
• Track findings through completion and verify effectiveness.

• Respond to environmental spills, releases, and compliance issues.
• Assist with spill investigations and root cause analysis.
• Coordinate spill response equipment inspections and readiness checks.
• Support development of corrective and preventive actions.

• Conduct environmental awareness and compliance training.
• Support employee education on:
  • Hazardous waste management
  • Spill prevention and response
  • Chemical handling
  • Stormwater protection
  • Waste minimization
  • Environmental permitting requirements
• Participate in safety and environmental committee activities.

• Assist with waste reduction and recycling initiatives.
• Track environmental performance metrics.
• Support energy, water, and resource conservation projects.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities designed to reduce environmental impact.

• Ability to routinely walk manufacturing and warehouse facilities.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to climb ladders, access tanks, platforms, or elevated work areas.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to wear required PPE including respiratory protection when necessary.

• Associate's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.
• Equivalent industry experience may be considered.

• 2+ years of environmental compliance experience in manufacturing, distribution, chemical processing, or industrial operations preferred.
• Experience with wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, or air permit programs preferred.

• Working knowledge of EPA and state environmental regulations.
• Understanding of hazardous waste management and chemical handling.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment and stormwater management practices.
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental reporting systems.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

• HAZWOPER 24-Hour or 40-Hour Certification
• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
• Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry
• Stormwater Inspector Certification (where applicable)
