The Fleet Upfitter is responsible for installing, modifying, and customizing vehicles in a company’s fleet to meet specific operational requirements. This role involves mechanical, electrical, and fabrication work including installation of toolboxes, shelving, lighting, GPS systems, safety equipment, and other accessories.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and modify equipment and accessories in fleet vehicles (e.g., lighting, ladder racks, shelving, decals, electronics).
  • Interpret work orders, diagrams, and manufacturer instructions to perform accurate installations.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
  • Perform inspections and quality control to ensure proper functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with installed equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations and services performed.
  • Communicate with team members, supervisors, and vendors regarding parts, procedures, and timelines.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Assist in fleet maintenance as needed, including oil changes, tire rotations, and general vehicle prep.
  • Assist Mechanics with Part pickups and drop offs
  • Keep Fleet yard organized for better inventory

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required, technical school training a plus.
  • 1–3 years of experience in vehicle upfitting, automotive mechanics, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with 12V electrical systems, wiring, and electronics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Nice to Have

  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations related to fleet vehicles.
  • Experience with commercial fleet vehicles (vans, trucks, utility vehicles).
  • May be required to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding positions (e.g., bending, crawling, climbing).
  • Occasional travel to off-site locations for field installations or deliveries.
