Henkels & McCoy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to support our West Region team. This internship provides hands-on exposure to utility construction and infrastructure projects through involvement in estimating, engineering/design review, field operations, and administrative coordination.
The ideal candidate is eager to learn, organized, and interested in developing practical experience in construction management, utility engineering, project coordination, and field operations.
Responsibilities

- →Assist with preparing project cost estimates and bid documentation
- →Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements
- →Support quantity takeoffs and material tracking
- →Organize subcontractor and supplier information
- →Maintain estimating files and project documentation
Design & Engineering Review Support
- →Assist with reviewing engineering drawings and design packages
- →Help track revisions, comments, and design deliverables
- →Coordinate documentation between engineering, estimating, and operations teams
- →Support quality checks for completeness and accuracy of project documents
- →Participate in project review meetings and note action items
Operations & Field Support
- →Participate in site visits and observe field construction activities
- →Assist project teams with daily coordination and reporting
- →Support tracking of project schedules, safety documentation, and field updates
- →Learn utility construction processes, field workflows, and operational procedures
- →Help compile field photos, progress reports, and project records
Administrative Support
- →Maintain organized digital and physical project files
- →Prepare meeting notes, reports, and presentation materials
- →Assist with data entry, spreadsheets, and document management
- →Coordinate internal communications and scheduling support
- →Perform additional administrative and project support tasks as needed
Requirements
~1 min read- Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related field
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn and work both in office and field environments
- Valid driver’s license preferred
Preferred Skills
- Interest in utility infrastructure, construction, or engineering projects
- Familiarity with construction drawings or project documentation
- Experience with scheduling, estimating, or CAD software is a plus
- Exposure to real-world utility construction and infrastructure projects
- Mentorship from experienced professionals across multiple departments
- Hands-on experience in estimating, engineering coordination, and field operations
- Opportunity to develop project management and communication skills
- Networking opportunities within the construction and utility industry
