Under the general direction of the Chair of the Education Department and the Dean of the Graduate School, the Director of Educational Leadership provides strategic leadership, administration, instruction, recruitment, and assessment for the Educational Leadership Program. The program is offered through multiple modalities, including online, hybrid, and partnership-based cohorts with local school systems.
As a Professor of Practice, the Director is responsible for overseeing program operations; recruiting, admitting, advising, and supporting candidates; maintaining partnerships with school districts and educational organizations; supervising adjunct faculty; coordinating curriculum and assessment activities; ensuring compliance with accreditation and state approval requirements; and promoting continued program growth and quality.
In addition to administrative responsibilities, the Director, as a Professor of Practice, teaches four graduate-level courses in Educational Leadership and related programs each year. An adjusted teaching load of four courses per year is provided to support the program leadership responsibilities associated with the position.
Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Program Leadership and Administration 30%
- Provide overall leadership, management, and strategic direction for the Educational Leadership Program.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with school districts, educational agencies, and community organizations to support program growth and candidate success.
- Coordinate program marketing, recruitment, information sessions, open houses, and outreach activities in collaboration with the Graduate School.
- Interview, admit, advise, and monitor candidates throughout their progression in the Educational Leadership Program.
- Develop course schedules and teaching assignments and oversee program delivery across instructional formats.
- Recruit, onboard, mentor, and evaluate adjunct faculty.
- Lead curriculum development, course revision, and continuous program improvement initiatives.
- Collect, analyze, and utilize assessment data to evaluate program effectiveness and support decision-making.
- Prepare reports and documentation required for accreditation, state approval, and program review processes, including CAEP, AAQEP, MSDE, and other regulatory agencies.
- Utilize institutional technology platforms for instruction, assessment, data collection, and program management.
- Manage special projects and other responsibilities related to graduate education programming as assigned.
Teaching and Student Success 50%
- Teach graduate-level courses in Educational Leadership and related education programs.
- Develop and maintain course syllabi, assignments, and instructional materials that align with program outcomes and institutional standards.
- Deliver high-quality instruction using evidence-based and adult-learning practices.
- Assess student learning and maintain accurate academic records, including grades and program documentation.
- Model exemplary educational leadership practices and professional standards.
- Maintain regular office hours and provide academic advising, mentoring, and support to program candidates.
Scholarship and Professional Engagement 10%
- Maintain professional expertise in educational leadership, administrator preparation, educational policy, and school improvement.
- Engage in scholarly inquiry, applied research, presentations, publications, and other professional development activities that support program quality and institutional goals.
- Monitor state and national developments in educational leadership preparation and licensure and integrate relevant changes into program operations.
Institutional and Professional Service 10%
- Participate in departmental, school, and college committees and governance activities.
- Represent the College within professional organizations and community partnerships.
- Support institutional recruitment and retention efforts.
- Foster collaborations that advance graduate education and educational leadership initiatives.
- Serve as an active and engaged member of the College community.
Weekly Work Hours
37.5 hours per week, 10-month contract. Graduate courses are offered in the evenings.
Minimum Qualifications

- Master's degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration, Education, or a closely related field.
- Maryland Administrator II licensure or eligibility for licensure.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of educational leadership or administrative experience at the school and/or district level.
- Demonstrated experience in educational program administration, supervision, and leadership.
- Strong communication, organizational, relationship-building, and project management skills.
- Experience working effectively with diverse stakeholders, including school system leaders, faculty, students, and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, Education, or a related field.
- Experience teaching at the graduate level.
- Experience directing or coordinating educator preparation or leadership development programs.
- Familiarity with accreditation, assessment, and state approval processes.
- Knowledge of Maryland educator licensure requirements and leadership standards.
Technology Skills
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills in English. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with data concepts and mastery in Excel. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from $58,500 to $65,000.00 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors. Additional compensation for work completed beyond the minimum contracted teaching load may be provided. Hood College has provided a compensation range representing its good faith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at the time of posting. The College may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range.
