Responsibilities

- →Inspects the construction of street improvements (i.e. paving, curb and gutter, sidewalk, etc.), bridges, storm drains and boxes, underground utility systems including lift stations, reservoirs, pressure stations, force mains, parks, grading and public and private street systems.
- →Interprets construction plans, specifications, and detail sheets.
- →Inspects pipe laying for alignment, grade, jointing, fittings and materials.
- →Inspects subgrade and base grade from compaction, alignment, grades and materials.
- →Uses standard survey principles to survey city projects.
- →Reviews detour plans, haul routes, and erosion control plans.
- →Maintains logs, records, record drawings (as-builts), office filing.
- →Keeps miscellaneous records and prepares reports as needed.
- →Reviews and makes recommendations to the Construction Inspection Supervisor for the solution of special construction issues and site conditions.
- →Schedules and makes arrangements for construction survey, soil and material testing, and other services or materials; Conducts a variety of tests on new facilities.
- →Assists in the development of technical reports by completing research and gathering applicable supporting data.
Qualifications:
Education:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Post-secondary education in similar or related field is preferred.
Experience:
Five or more years of public works and/or construction experience is required. Basic understanding of surveying is preferred.
Certificates/License:
Must possess a valid Kansas driver's license. KDOT certifications are highly desirable. Must obtain KDOT Basic Inspection certification within one year of hire.
