About the Role

Based in Nipaluna (Hobart) or Kanamaluka (Launceston), you'll lead a team of engineers responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering design outcomes across Hydro Tasmania's capital program. Reporting to the Engineering Planning Manager, you'll provide technical leadership across complex refurbishment and asset renewal projects, ensuring design solutions are safe, fit-for-purpose and commercially sound.

Working closely with project leaders, specialists and stakeholders, you'll translate complex engineering concepts into practical business decisions while maintaining focus on the broader strategic objectives that underpin Hydro Tasmania's future asset investments.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of engineers to deliver project outcomes.

• Plan and deliver complex design packages across major capital, refurbishment and asset renewal projects.

• Coordinate engineering resources, schedules, deliverables and project priorities.

• Provide technical leadership and governance, maintaining design baselines, engineering standards and Safety in Design principles.

• Manage design changes, technical risks and multidisciplinary interfaces throughout project lifecycles.

• Build trusted relationships and translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for stakeholders and decision-makers.

• Drive continuous improvement in engineering, design management and project delivery practices in support of long-term business objectives.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

• Experience leading engineering teams and developing capability

• Proven success planning and delivering complex capital projects

• Strong technical knowledge across design, refurbishment and project delivery lifecycles

• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and build strong partnerships.

• Experience with design management, project scheduling (MS Project) and project governance

• Exposure to SAP, asset planning and large-scale industrial or power generation assets
