Position Overview
The Mining Engineering Intern will gain hands-on experience across ARI’s specialized drilling, blasting, mining, and development projects throughout the United States. This field-based summer internship combines operational experience with engineering support, surveying, field technology, data collection, and project coordination. Working alongside experienced field and engineering professionals, this position will experience firsthand how technical planning and engineering decisions are applied in active operations.
This internship is intended for students pursuing Mining Engineering or a related engineering or technical degree who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in mining, construction, and field operations. Assignments may include data center construction, utility-scale solar development, mineral extraction across a variety of commodities, and active mine and quarry operations.
Throughout the summer, this position will rotate among blast crews, drilling operations, surveying, engineering support, and project teams. ARI’s goal is to provide a comprehensive experience that connects classroom learning with field execution, builds an understanding of the full project lifecycle, and allows you to explore different career paths and areas of specialization within the mining and construction industries.

- Internship Term: This position is part of ARI’s Summer 2027 Internship Program, with the potential to continue beyond the summer based on business needs, student availability, and performance.
- Fly-in fly-out schedule: This position follows a travel-based schedule determined by active project locations and operational needs during the internship.
- Project-driven rotations: The intern’s work location, crew assignment, and daily schedule may change throughout the summer to provide meaningful exposure and support current projects.
- Work hours: Extended workdays, early morning starts, and occasional weekend work may be required while assigned to field operations.
- Nationwide field assignments: Work is performed at active ARI project sites throughout the United States, which may include remote locations.
- Hourly Rate: $20.00 per hour, with opportunities for overtime.
- Education: Must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering or technical field.
- Travel flexibility: Ability and willingness to participate in a fly-in fly-out schedule, travel frequently, stay near remote project sites, and adjust to changing assignments throughout the summer.
- Foundational knowledge: Basic understanding of mining operations and engineering concepts through completed coursework; previous field experience is not required.
- Technology skills: Basic comfort using Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn ARI’s field applications, surveying tools, mapping platforms, and operational technology.
- Driver license: Valid driver’s license with a driving record that includes no more than 3 moving violations and/or chargeable accidents in the last 3 years and no DUIIs.
- Background check: Required through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in compliance with federal government restrictions.
- Pre-employment drug test and physical: Pre-employment drug test and physical required. We conduct random drug tests and post-accident testing. For safety reasons, ARI maintains a zero-tolerance drug policy, including marijuana use.

- Blast crew support: Works alongside blast crews to support day-of-blast preparation, material and equipment readiness, loading activities, blast-area controls, and execution procedures under qualified supervision.
- Drilling support: Works alongside drilling crews to assist with pattern layout, borehole documentation, equipment readiness, field observations, and other activities that build an understanding of production drilling.
- Surveying: Assists with field measurements, point collection, layout, mapping, staking, topographic information, and other survey-related project needs.
- Bore tracking: Assists with gathering and organizing borehole depth, location, deviation, geology, and condition information to support drilling and blasting decisions.
- Engineering support: Assists engineers and project leaders with calculations, plans, quantities, field verification, data analysis, technical documentation, and project coordination.
- Technology exposure: Participates in drone mapping, modeling, field applications, production tracking, and other technology-enabled workflows as project opportunities allow.
- Project documentation: Maintains accurate field notes, production records, drill logs, survey information, reports, photographs, and other assigned project documentation.
- Cross-functional learning: Participates in different project phases and crew assignments to develop an understanding of how ARI’s divisions work together.
- Safety commitment: Maintains a safety-first mindset and consistently follows all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to help ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
- Additional duties: Perform other duties to contribute to the company’s overall success.
- Real-World Project Experience: Gain hands-on experience supporting complex drilling, blasting, mining, and development projects across the United States.
