Lead Back End Developer (Python)

Web Design Sun is a fully remote software development company founded in 2012. We build international products across Web & Cloud Applications, SaaS, CRM/ERP, and E-commerce domains. Our clients are based in the US and Europe, and we are consistently highly ranked on Clutch, GoodFirms, and Upwork.

We are looking for a Lead Backend Developer who combines strong theoretical knowledge with practical engineering judgment.

This role is not just about coding — it’s about owning architecture, making trade-offs, and leading multiple projects at different maturity stages (monoliths, microservices, early-stage products).

  Lead backend development across multiple projects 

• →

  Design scalable, high-load, distributed systems

• →

  Make and justify architectural decisions and trade-offs

• →

  Work with both monolith and microservices architectures

• →

  Collaborate closely with product, DevOps, and ML teams

• →

  Take ownership of technical decisions and system quality

• →

  Mentor developers and drive engineering standards

• Strong understanding of System Design

• Deep knowledge of:

  • Distributed Systems

  • High-load architectures

  • Trade-offs in real-world systems

• Solid theoretical foundation:

  • ACID / BASE / Consistency

  • CAP / PACELC

  • Algorithms & data structures (complexity awareness)

• Strong Python expertise

• Experience with:

  • Django + DRF

  • FastAPI + SQLAlchemy

  • PostgreSQL (RDS)

• High level of proactivity and ownership

• Experience with:

  • Microservices architecture & patterns

  • Monolithic systems

  • Redis / ElastiCache
    
    

• English — B1+, Ukrainian/Russian — C1+/Native

• Residence outside Russia, Belarus & Ukraine
