ILRI Research Fellowship opportunity: International Water Management Institute (IWMI) - Sustainable Animal and Aquatic Foods (SAAF) Science program

International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a research fellow on behalf of International Water Management Institute (IWMI) within the Sustainable Animal and Aquatic Foods (SAAF) Science program.

ILRIs’ mission is that people’s lives in low- and middle-income countries are improved through livestock science that contributes to equitable and resilient livestock systems in order to deliver food systems transformation with climate and environmental benefits. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR Research Centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. IWMI is recruiting a Research Fellow to support the assessment of the impacts of water bunds on household livelihoods and the co-design of gender-transformative approaches for scaling water bunds in pastoral systems in Kajiado County, Kenya. The Fellow will work closely with the project team to support data collection and analysis using both quantitative and qualitative methods, conduct literature reviews, and contribute to research output and publications.

The research fellow will use quantitative and qualitative research methods, with specific responsibilities including data cleaning and management, statistical and econometric analysis, literature reviews, qualitative data analysis, report writing, and the preparation of research outputs.

In addition, the Fellow will support fieldwork and data collection activities aimed at understanding the design, implementation, and performance of irrigation water tariffs in selected irrigation schemes in Kenya. This work will contribute to the development of case studies and an assessment framework for irrigation water tariffs and incentive mechanisms to support sustainable irrigation management.

• →Design data collection tools (questionnaires, FGD and KII guides)
• →Design and program CAPI questionnaires
• →Support data collection activities, including training of enumerators and follow-up of the data collection partner activities
• →Clean and analyze socio-economic data using STATA.
• →Produce summary statistics and regression analysis.
• →Support analysis of qualitative data using NVivo (or any other relevant tool)
• →Conduct reviews of relevant literature.
• →Produce a summary of findings and co-author research outputs such as blogs, technical briefs, and working papers.

• Applicants must be from a National Agricultural Research Institute/organization (NARI/O) e.g. National Agricultural Institute, national university etc.
• A master’s degree in economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, or related disciplines.
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection.
• Relevant experience in cleaning and analyzing quantitative data.
• Experience with qualitative data analysis.
• Experience summarizing academic literature and writing policy briefs and working papers. Proficiency in STATA and NVivo.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and good interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and data management skills.
