We're looking for someone who knows Shopify well enough to challenge how we're using it.
This isn't a role for someone who simply builds Shopify features. It's for an engineer who understands Shopify's platform deeply and wants to influence how one of the world's largest partnership platforms integrates with it.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, E-commerce Platform Integrations, you'll own and evolve impact.com's Shopify integration - a critical platform connecting thousands of merchants directly to our ecosystem.
You'll help shape our approach to Shopify Apps, Web Pixels, merchant onboarding, API integrations and platform architecture while ensuring our integration continues to evolve alongside Shopify itself.
If you're the kind of engineer who enjoys reading Shopify release notes, experimenting with new platform capabilities, debating architecture decisions and building systems that scale across thousands of merchants, we'd love to talk to you.
- Own the development and evolution of our Shopify integration, including Apps, Web Pixels and platform extensions. Build reliable, privacy-compliant solutions that accurately capture conversions, refunds and customer events while adapting to Shopify's evolving platform capabilities.
- Design and improve the complete merchant installation experience. You'll build secure OAuth flows, manage credentials, automate onboarding and ensure merchants can install and activate Impact with minimal friction.
- Build and maintain the Ruby on Rails application that connects Shopify with Impact's APIs and workflow engine.
- You'll design resilient webhook consumers, manage high-volume data pipelines and ensure reliable synchronisation between platforms.
- While Ruby on Rails is our primary backend technology, we're happy to support experienced Shopify engineers in developing deeper Rails expertise.
- Own the health of our Shopify integration in production.
- You'll proactively manage API version upgrades, monitor webhook delivery, troubleshoot merchant-specific issues and ensure the platform remains performant, secure and resilient as Shopify evolves.
We don't want someone who simply maintains an integration. We want someone who can improve it.
You'll help us identify better ways of using Shopify's platform, evaluate new capabilities such as Checkout Extensibility, Functions and Web Pixels, and influence the future direction of our Shopify ecosystem.
- You've built production Shopify Apps, integrations or platform extensions and understand the Shopify ecosystem beyond storefront development.
- Ideally you've worked with technologies such as Shopify Apps, Checkout UI Extensions, Web Pixels, Shopify Functions, App Bridge, GraphQL Admin API, OAuth, Webhooks, Shopify Partner Dashboard
- You've built integrations between complex SaaS platforms and understand how to design reliable event-driven systems.
- You're comfortable working with REST and GraphQL APIs, OAuth authentication, Webhooks, Rate limiting, Background processing, High-volume event pipelines
- You have experience building and maintaining production backend services.
- Ruby on Rails experience is preferred, but we're equally interested in experienced Shopify engineers who have worked with technologies such as Node.js, Python, PHP or Java and are excited to work with Rails
- You're comfortable working with modern JavaScript or TypeScript and understand how browser-based tracking technologies operate within Shopify's platform
You think beyond individual features. You understand how changes to one system affect another and enjoy designing reusable, scalable solutions that work across thousands of merchants rather than solving one-off problems
