About the Role

This leadership opportunity supports our highly specialized Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where multidisciplinary teams provide expert care to critically ill and medically complex pediatric patients. As the Assistant Nurse Manager - PICU, you will partner closely with unit leadership to drive operational excellence, support frontline team members, and foster a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

As part of a leadership team supporting a 24/7 operation, approximately 20% of scheduled hours will be worked during off-shift hours, allowing meaningful engagement with team members across all shifts.

Responsibilities

  • →Partner with the Nurse Manager to establish, implement, and evaluate strategic initiatives focused on:
    • →Quality and patient safety outcomes
    • →Care affordability and operational efficiency
    • →Patient, family, and team member experience
    • →Regulatory compliance and performance improvement
  • →Lead the execution of departmental goals and action plans while measuring effectiveness and driving sustained results.
  • →Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, collaboration, and professional excellence among nursing and interdisciplinary team members.
  • →Champion evidence-based practice, nursing excellence, and continuous professional development to advance patient care outcomes.
  • →Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, mentoring, and retention of clinical team members.
  • →Serve as a visible and accessible leader, providing operational oversight and support across all shifts.
  • →Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, and multidisciplinary partners to ensure exceptional care delivery and patient outcomes.
  • →Participate in leadership coverage responsibilities, including weekends, holidays, and designated off-shift support.

 

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree required. 
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.   
  • Required Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.   
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.   
  • 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • Charge Nurse, Shift Coordinator or other leadership experience preferred.
  • PICU/ICU experience preferred.
