Location: University Hospital, Surgery Outpatient Clinic- On-site

Position: Clinical Nurse - Wound Ostomy  

Shift: Day; Monday- Friday 8:00a-4:30p or (4) 10-hr shifts Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri 

 

The Clinical Nurse - Wound Ostomy provides direction and coordination for a specific patient population with disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems supporting the IU Health Way. The primary area of expertise is in wound, ostomy, and continence management. This role also serves as a consultant to the healthcare team in the area of expertise, ensuring optimal patient care and management.

Position Overview:  

The Clinical Nurse - Wound Ostomy specializes in managing complex wound, ostomy, and continence cases, offering expert guidance and support to the care team. The role involves developing individualized care plans, providing education, and ensuring best practices in wound and ostomy care are implemented. The nurse acts as a clinical resource, promoting patient-centered, evidence-based practices within the department.

Key Responsibilities:  

• Provide clinical direction and coordination for patients with wound, ostomy, and continence needs.  

• Serve as a consultant and resource for the healthcare team regarding specialized wound and ostomy care.  

• Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients within the specialty.  

• Educate patients and staff on wound, ostomy, and continence management practices.  

• Ensure compliance with departmental policies and standards related to wound and ostomy care.  

• Must be comfortable conducting independent visits when NP is not in office.

Qualifications & Requirements:  

• Education:  

  - Associates of Nursing (ASN) required.  

  - Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.  

• Licensure & Certifications:  

  - Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.  

  - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). 

  - Current certification in Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing (CWOCN) within 1 year of eligibility for certification.  

  - Other advanced life support certifications may be required per department policies.  

• Experience & Knowledge:  

  - Clinical experience in wound, ostomy, and continence care preferred.  

  - Knowledge of wound management, ostomy care, and related medical terminology.  

  - Ability to serve as a clinical resource and consultant within the healthcare team.
