The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana! Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country. 

SHIFT:  Full-Time, Days

HOURS:  Three 12-hour shifts - Saturday, Sunday, and Monday

Location: IUHMG M-Pathology Lab
 

The Histotechnician at LAB prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures that aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis. Processes, embeds, cuts and stains surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review. Performs complex histological procedures and analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles. Analyzes and records data. Performs instrument maintenance, utilizing established protocols. Works within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments. Works with a limited degree of supervision with oversight focused only on complex new assignments. Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Associate's Degree in Histology is preferred.
  • Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) through ASCP is required within 6 months of hire date. Additional experience/education will be considered in lieu of certification.
  • Required skills include but are not limited to; Embedding, Cutting, routine H&E staining, Special stains.
  • Requires proficiency at computer entry/retrieval of lab results.
  • Requires ability to maintain quality control records and patient results.
  • Requires ability to apply safety regulations.
  • Requires ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment.
