Shift: Full-Time, Days (Monday – Friday)
Hours: Varies; start and end times between 7:30 am – 5:00 pm

Indiana University Health’s Child Protection Program (IUCPP), part of the Department of Pediatrics, provides trauma-informed, multidisciplinary consultation for children suspected of maltreatment. Our team includes pediatric child abuse specialists, nurses, social workers, health educators, and support staff committed to delivering expert, compassionate care.
Consultations are conducted via phone, review of medical records and photographs, or through direct inpatient and outpatient encounters, depending on the child's needs. Our goal is to support accurate assessment of injuries and determine whether they result from accidental or non-accidental causes.

 
Position Overview:
As a Social Worker in this role, you will collaborate effectively with the IUCPP team to provide trauma-informed, timely, and comprehensive care for children and their families. You will interpret complex psychosocial needs, conduct mental health assessments, and facilitate therapeutic interventions. A primary focus is serving as a key liaison with child protective services, law enforcement, and community agencies involved in cases of abuse, neglect, guardianship, foster care, and mental health.

 
Core Responsibilities:
Meet face-to-face with patients and families to assess psychosocial needs.  
Collaborate with medical teams to ensure effective, trauma-informed care delivery.  
Provide counseling on emotional, social, and financial impacts of trauma or disability.  
Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet identified needs.  
Conduct mental health assessments and provide therapeutic interventions as needed.  
Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison with child protective services, law enforcement, and community agencies.  
Support families and caregivers through trauma-informed approaches to promote safety and prevent violence.  
Maintain confidential case files, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal and regulatory standards.  
Assist in complex discharge planning to ensure safe patient transitions.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.  
Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required; LCSW preferred.  
Certifications: De-escalation or Crisis Prevention Intervention certification required within 6 months of hire.  
Experience: 3–5 years preferred, especially in mental health, child and family services, adult protective services, or substance abuse.  

 
Skills & Knowledge:  
Trauma-informed assessment and crisis intervention.  
Knowledge of legal mandates for child and adult protective services.  
Principles of human development across the lifespan.  
Strong crisis de-escalation skills.  
Ability to build and sustain relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, CPS, schools, and probation.  
Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation and general computer skills.  
Experience working with diverse populations across geographic, cultural, and financial backgrounds.
