Position Overview
The Registration Specialist plays a vital role in delivering a positive, supportive, and efficient check‑in experience for pediatric patients and their families. Working with children requires patience, warmth, and strong communication skills to help young patients feel safe and comfortable while ensuring caregivers receive clear and accurate information regarding follow‑up care.
This role supports smooth patient flow, reduces stress at the conclusion of visits, and reinforces a family‑centered care experience. By combining attention to detail with compassionate customer service, this position contributes to high patient satisfaction, clinic efficiency, and overall quality of care.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate patient flow from check‑out through departure in a timely, accurate, and professional manner
Verify and update patient demographic, insurance, and financial information
Schedule follow‑up appointments and provide clear next‑step instructions to caregivers
Interview patients/caregivers to obtain required medical or administrative information
Explain hospital and departmental policies, billing, and charges
Answer incoming calls and direct patients and families appropriately
Collaborate with clinical, scheduling, billing, and front‑desk teams to ensure seamless care coordination

Maintains accuracy in registration, scheduling, documentation, and insurance verification in a fast‑paced clinical setting.

Efficiently manages check‑out processes to support patient flow, minimize wait times, and coordinate care effectively.
Skills for Success
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Experience using Cerner or other electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred
Strong communication skills with the ability to remain calm and empathetic
Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a busy pediatric environment
Collaborative mindset and comfort working with both clinical and administrative teams

Required & Preferred Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Relevant experience in a healthcare setting preferred
Ability to learn and retain medical coding concepts; experience with ICD‑10 and CPT coding preferred
Ability to interpret insurance information; knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology preferred
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
