In Türkiye’s East, Southeast, and Mediterranean (ESEM) Region, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) implements a wide range of programming aimed at supporting migrants, refugees, and host communities, while contributing to protection, resilience, social cohesion, sustainable livelihoods, and effective migration management.

Under the overall supervision of the National Media and Communications Officer (Head of Public Information) in Ankara and direct supervision of the National Communications Officer in Gaziantep, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of communication activities and preparing communication and multimedia materials on IOM’s work in the ESEM Region. 

  1. Assist in the implementation of IOM's communication guidelines and visibility activities, under the guidance of the National Communications Officer.
  2. Assist in creating multimedia content, including human interest stories, photographs, videos, and social media posts, for use in IOM’s internal and external communication channels.
  3. Prepare visual communication materials, such as infographics, social media assets, posters, brochures, and other products, in accordance with IOM branding and visibility guidelines.
  4. Conduct field visits, as needed, under the guidance of the National Communications Officer, to gather communication materials highlighting IOM’s activities, beneficiaries, and programme results.
  5. Assist in preparing and formatting internal communication materials, including templates, documents, reports, and graphics, under the guidance of the National Communications Officer.
  6. Assist the National Communications Officer in liaising with programme staff to facilitate the collection of information and audio-visual materials.
  7. Maintain and organize the mission’s digital asset library and provide translation and proofreading support for communication materials.
  8. Assist in the logistical and administrative arrangements for communication-related events, meetings, and visits, as required.
  9. Perform such other relevant duties as may be assigned.
     

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Development Communication, Social Sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
  • High School diploma with four years of relevant professional experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

  • Experience in communications and media work, preferably in the development and humanitarian sector;
  • Experience in preparing publications and promotional materials, such as infographics, is an advantage;
  • Experience assisting with public events and preparing human interest stories, photo essays, and video stories;
  • Familiarity with using and publishing on social media platforms; and
    Strong preference will be given to multilingual candidates (English, Turkish, and/or Arabic).
    Experience in translating documents and providing interpretation during meetings between the above three languages is an advantage.
  • Good writing and editing skills;
  • Good photography and videography skills;
  • Ability to manage social media accounts;
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Audition, Illustrator, and/or InDesign is an asset; and
  • Willingness to undertake a range of media and communications support duties, as needed

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in English and Turkish or Arabic is required (oral and written).

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
