In a complex and uncertain world, the useful application of data for evidence-based policy and action is needed now more than ever. Whether it be helping displaced people find durable solutions in the face of climate change impacts, or analysis that allows better foresight for migration scenarios and preparedness—managing human mobility to contribute to sustainable development requires a data- driven approach.
Requirements
~1 min read- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Management, Information Systems, Information Science, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,
- University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
- Advanced experience in Python for data engineering tasks (Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines, data transformation, automation) is mandatory for this position;
- Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services (Azure Data Factory, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Structured Query Language (SQL) Database) is required;
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric or equivalent cloud data Lakehouse platforms, including familiarity with medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold layers) for data organization and quality management, is required;
- Experience in providing data and analytical support related to disaggregated data. Experience with Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interface (REST- API) development and API management platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure API Management) is an advantage;
- Experience in designing data integration and pipeline architectures, bringing in data from various sources, such as message queues, databases, or specific APIs, is required;
- Experience in database programming languages (SQL, etc.), including hands-on experience with relational databases such as MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server; familiarity with cloud database migration projects is an advantage;
- Experience working with self-service analytics applications like Microsoft PowerBI, Tableau, and others for data discovery is required; and,
- Experience in delivering big data use cases, including projects using technology such as Apache Spark, or others, is desirable. Experience with Apache Spark within Microsoft Fabric or Azure Synapse Analytics is particularly advantageous.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data engineering and data integration systems required;
- Background in data management, integration, modeling, optimization, and other relevant areas is required; and,
- Familiarity with the Microsoft data ecosystem—including Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Data Pipelines, Spark Notebooks), and Power BI—is required; experience working within a medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers) is strongly preferred.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
