MHPSS Capacity Building Specialist

IOM in Ukraine is implementing a range of initiatives in the field of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) as part of its large‑scale community‑based MHPSS programme, which provides assistance to affected populations. Within this framework, the consultant will support the unit across several interconnected functions, including delivering capacity‑building initiatives for community actors and service providers, conducting technical qualitative monitoring of field activities and formulating recommendations to strengthen programme quality, contributing to reporting and analysis of results, and supporting the development of new technical programmes. 

1. Support technically the integration of MHPSS considerations into community‑based activities in close collaboration with the Senior MHPSS Associates and other team members, ensuring alignment with the full spectrum of the IASC intervention pyramid and contributing insights for programme development and adaptation.

2. Conduct training sessions on Community‑Based MHPSS approaches, Psychological First Aid (PFA), stress management, team building, conflict management, communication skills, and any other MHPSS approaches developed and/or adopted by IOM for humanitarian actors, community focal points, volunteers, and IOM staff, contributing to broader capacity‑building efforts.

3. Strengthen partners networks by supporting the organization of meetings, discussion forums, and coordination initiatives.

4. Develop awareness and information materials and psychoeducation content related to MHPSS, coordinating with team members to ensure coherent and effective communication.

5. Assist in conducting MHPSS assessments, including needs assessments, impact assessments, surveys, FGDs, KIIs, and research, contributing to improved access to community‑based psychosocial services and specialized mental health care.

6. Support the implementation of MHPSS technical components of integrated MHPSS–Livelihoods initiatives (MLI) and MHPSS projects supporting veterans, their families, and families of fallen veterans.

7. Support proper reporting and data entry of activities in tracker sheets, contributing to analysis of results, qualitative monitoring findings, and evidence that informs the design of new technical programmes.

8. Perform other related tasks as assigned.

    

1. Successful implementation of planned tasks and initiatives, with high-quality service delivery in line with IOM guidelines and informed by qualitative monitoring findings.

2. Fulfillment of required working time.

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field, with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience; an advanced degree is an advantage.

• Experience in research, development of technical materials, and preparation of MHPSS guidance, preferably in contexts involving conflict‑affected populations, including veterans and their families.

• Demonstrated experience in coordinating stakeholders and supporting capacity‑building initiatives, including facilitation of trainings and community‑based learning processes.

• Experience contributing to the development of new technical programmes, including providing field‑based insights, qualitative monitoring inputs, and recommendations for programme design and adaptation.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders in sensitive and rapidly changing environments.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating strong organizational, planning, and time‑management skills.

• Competence in reporting, data collection, and basic analysis, including contributions to qualitative monitoring and results interpretation.

• Experience with international organizations and/or participation in MHPSS trainings is an asset.
