IOM Ethiopia, in close coordination and collaboration with the Government of Ethiopia as well as other UN and NGO partners, provides post-arrival support to thousands of vulnerable Ethiopian migrant returnees every year. IOM provdes migrants with lifve-saving post-arrival assistance, including at the IOM Transit Center in Addis Ababa.
The successful candidate will contribute to the work of the Return and Reintegration team in IOM Ethiopia’s Protection Unit, being mainly responsible for tasks in support of the provision of immediate post-arrival assistance to migrant returnees.
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Officer (Return and Reintegration) and the direct supervision of the National Project Officer (Return), the Project Associate (Return) will be responsible and accountable for the below tasks in support of the post-arrival assistance provided by of IOM Ethiopia’s Protection Unit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
1. Provide general/clerical assistance in the implementation of project activities.
2. Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific project topics.
3. Assist in monitoring budget and updating budget related information.
4. Support administrative coordination for project implementation, involving liaison with diverse organizational units or external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process, and follow-up on administrative actions.
5. Draft status reports, correspondence, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations,
6. and other forms of documentation.
7. Support the organization of meetings, workshops and training sessions.
8. Respond to general information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
~1 min read• School diploma with three years of relevant experience; or,
• Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with one years of relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
• Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
• Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).
For this position, fluency in Amharic is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Afan Oromo is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
