Organizational Context and Scope

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Migration Agency, is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non‑governmental partners. IOM promotes the orderly and humane management of migration, advances international cooperation on migration issues, supports practical solutions to emerging challenges, and provides humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including internally displaced persons.

  1. Independently lead and coordinate the implementation of the project and related health interventions and activities. Monitor implementation of the activities to ensure work is proceeding according to established plans; analyse implementation difficulties and make recommendations for adjusting implementation modalities and work plans to best reflect changing environment on the field.
  2. Regularly research, follow-up, compile, analyse and present information/data on national, regional and international health developments, reports, legislation and other relevant documentation, highlighting noteworthy issues for the consideration of appropriate parties.
  3. Monitor budget expenditures by verifying availability of funds and maintaining a proper record of approved project budgets and their revisions, including those related to health activities and interventions.
  4. Coordinate and monitor the financial, administrative and technical aspects of the project, including health-related components, in line with IOM policies and donor requirements.
  5. Plan, coordinate and conduct capacity building workshops for relevant internal and external parties, including trainings on health-related topics and interventions.
  6. Participate in meetings and conferences. Maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, health authorities, partners, United Nation (UN) agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
  7. Coordinate the preparation of correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, narrative and financial reports, including health-related project updates and results. Ensure status reports are prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
  8. Identify and document good practices and lessons learned from project implementation, including health programming, and contribute to the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP), policies and concept papers to support the development of new projects.
  9. Supervise and provide guidance and training to reporting staff, including on health-related project activities as required.
  10. Perform such other relevant duties as may be assigned, including support to health-related initiatives and project activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with seven years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience.
     

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Experience applying established public health procedures in programme implementation.
  • Experience supporting public health research through data collection, basic data compilation, and literature review, while also assisting with field assessments and surveys in the areas of health and migration.
     
  • Basic knowledge of the project cycle within humanitarian or development programs.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong work ethics.
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments.
  • Coordination skills for working with and supporting local health authorities, health professionals, community health workers, and implementing partners.
  • Familiarity with reviewing academic literature and synthesizing findings to support public health programming.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, for data management and reporting.
     

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in Spanish is required (oral and written).
