Position Summary

The Senior IT Engineer is a senior technical member of the global Information Technology team responsible for the administration, support, security, and continuous improvement of the company’s corporate technology environment.

This is primarily a hands-on technical position, with approximately 10–15% of the role dedicated to team coordination, operational leadership, and management responsibilities. The Senior IT Engineer serves as the designated second-in-command to the Global IT Manager and assumes responsibility for day-to-day IT operations when the Global IT Manager is unavailable.

In addition to technical responsibilities, this position owns selected vendor relationships and contracts, coordinates defined IT initiatives, mentors other IT team members, and assists the Global IT Manager with maintaining consistent technology standards and operating practices across the company’s global locations.

The Senior IT Engineer is expected to spend the majority of their time performing technical and operational work. Approximately 10–15% of the position will involve delegated leadership responsibilities, including coordinating team activities, managing selected vendors and initiatives, mentoring other IT personnel, and acting on behalf of the Global IT Manager when required.

This position does not replace the Global IT Manager’s responsibility for overall IT strategy, personnel management, budgeting, and organizational leadership. Rather, it provides operational depth, technical leadership, and management continuity within the global IT organization.

Success in this position will be measured by the reliability and security of assigned systems, effective resolution of complex technical issues, quality and consistency of IT operations, successful management of assigned vendors, adherence to corporate technology standards, contribution to integration initiatives, development of other IT team members, and the ability to maintain effective IT operations when acting on behalf of the Global IT Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated second-in-command for global IT operations.
  • Act on behalf of the Global IT Manager during vacations, absences, or other periods when delegated responsibility is required.
  • Coordinate daily IT priorities, workload, escalations, and operational issues when acting for the Global IT Manager.
  • Provide guidance and technical direction to other IT team members.
  • Assist with prioritization and assignment of support requests, projects, and operational activities.
  • Escalate significant operational, security, personnel, or business issues to appropriate leadership.
  • Participate in IT planning, prioritization, and operational decision-making with the Global IT Manager.
  • Provide continuity of IT leadership without removing the position’s primary focus on hands-on technical work.
  • Serve as the primary operational owner for designated IT vendors, service providers, and technology contracts.
  • Manage day-to-day vendor relationships, service delivery, escalations, renewals, and performance.
  • Monitor vendor performance against contractual commitments and service expectations.
  • Review utilization, licensing, upcoming renewals, and opportunities for consolidation or cost optimization.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Legal, Security, and the Global IT Manager as appropriate for contract renewals and changes.
  • Maintain documentation of assigned contracts, renewal dates, licensing commitments, and vendor contacts.
  • Implement and maintain corporate security standards across endpoints, identities, systems, and applications.
  • Support endpoint security, patching, encryption, authentication, access-control, and device-management requirements.
  • Assist with security investigations and remediation activities involving corporate IT systems.
  • Support periodic user and access reviews.
  • Assist with audit and compliance evidence collection and remediation activities.
  • Ensure IT procedures and system configurations remain consistent with established security policies and company standards.
  • Identify technology or process risks and escalate them appropriately.
  • Support IT integration activities associated with acquisitions, mergers, and organizational changes.
  • Perform technical discovery and document acquired-company users, devices, applications, networks, vendors, and technology services.
  • Execute migration and integration activities involving identities, endpoints, collaboration platforms, applications, and corporate services.
  • Help identify technical gaps, security risks, unsupported systems, licensing issues, and opportunities for standardization.
  • Assist in executing established IT integration plans, standards, and checklists.
  • Provide technical support to acquired employees throughout transition and integration activities.
  • Support implementation of consistent technology standards across company locations and business units.
  • Assist with consolidation of systems, vendors, applications, and technology platforms.
  • Ensure systems under the position’s responsibility are appropriately configured, documented, secured, and supported.
  • Identify inconsistencies between locations or business units and recommend practical improvements.
  • Help develop repeatable technical processes that can be applied across the global organization.
  • Create and maintain system documentation, configuration standards, procedures, inventories, and operational runbooks.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for systems and services within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Develop procedures that enable other IT personnel to effectively support systems and services.
  • Participate in problem management and root-cause analysis for recurring or significant IT issues.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to reliability, security, supportability, and employee experience.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in information technology, systems administration, infrastructure, endpoint management, or a related technical role.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and troubleshoot complex IT systems and services.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Azure AD, endpoint-management platforms, and enterprise collaboration technologies.
  • Experience with Windows and macOS enterprise environments.
  • Working knowledge of networking, identity and access management, endpoint security, authentication, and cloud technologies.
  • Experience managing or coordinating third-party technology vendors.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of other technical personnel and provide direction during operational issues.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees and technical teams across multiple geographic locations and time zones.

  • Microsoft, Apple, security, cloud, ITIL, or other relevant technical certifications.
