ITASCA North America is seeking a geomechanics intern to join our Minneapolis office for summer 2027. The intern will contribute to consulting projects involving geologic and geotechnical data analysis, machine learning, and numerical modeling. The position may include up to two weeks of out-of-town fieldwork.

Responsibilities

The geomechanics intern will support consulting projects by organizing, reviewing, and interpreting geologic and geotechnical data; applying machine-learning methods; preparing inputs for numerical models; conducting sensitivity studies; and comparing model results with field observations.

Under the guidance of experienced consultants, the intern will document assumptions and results; prepare figures, tables, technical summaries, reports, and presentations; and collaborate with engineers and consultants on project deliverables. This work will provide practical experience in geomechanics workflows, technical problem-solving, quality review, and communicating modeling results to project teams.

Requirements

· Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, mining engineering, or a closely related field.

· Minimum GPA of 3.0

· Ability to work on-site in the Minneapolis office for the duration of the internship.

· Willingness to travel for up to two weeks and occasionally adjust work hours to meet project needs.

· Ability to work independently and in a collaborative, team-based environment.

· Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without present or future sponsorship (e.g., H-1B, L-1, TN)

What We Offer

· 100% employer-paid parking or bus pass

· One hour of time off accrued and available to take for every 30 hours worked.

The anticipated base hourly range for this position is $22-28 per hour. This is a full-time, short-term temporary internship position based in our Minneapolis office and is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
