The JADA Group of Companies invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the position of Surveyor. The Surveyor will be responsible for leading and overseeing all surveying activities associated with road construction and civil infrastructure projects. The role ensures the accurate establishment of survey control, alignment of road corridors, setting out of drainage systems and pavement layers, and verification of earthworks and construction levels in accordance with approved engineering designs and project specifications. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: Survey Planning & Control • Establish and maintain survey control networks including baseline surveys, benchmarks, and reference points for road construction projects. • Verify and maintain horizontal and vertical control systems across the project corridor. • Recover or relocate existing survey monuments where required during project execution. • Ensure survey control points are properly protected and maintained throughout the project lifecycle. Road Alignment & Setting Out • Set out and verify road centerlines, alignments, and chainage points along the project corridor. • Supervise the setting out of horizontal curves, transitions, and road offsets. • Ensure accurate positioning of road boundaries, right-of-way limits, and corridor limits. • Confirm road widths, shoulders, slopes, and structural elements are aligned with engineering drawings. Earthworks & Levels Verification • Conduct pre-construction topographic surveys and establish existing ground levels. • Monitor and verify cut and fill operations in accordance with approved designs. • Perform cross-section surveys to determine earthworks quantities and volume calculations. • Confirm formation levels, subgrade levels, and grading requirements during construction. Drainage & Infrastructure Setting Out • Set out drainage infrastructure including culverts, catch basins, manholes, and stormwater systems. • Verify alignment and levels for drainage channels and stormwater flow. • Coordinate survey activities related to road structures and utilities. Pavement Construction Control • Verify levels and alignment for pavement layers including: o Subgrade o Subbase o Base course o Asphalt layers • Ensure pavement elevations and slopes comply with engineering specifications. Survey Verification & Quality Assurance • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in survey measurements or alignment. • Ensure all survey work complies with project drawings, specifications, and quality standards. Quantity Measurement & Documentation • Maintain accurate survey records, measurement logs, and quantity calculations. • Assist with the preparation of earthworks quantities and measurement reports. • Support project progress reporting and contractor measurement verification. • Ensure survey data supports project documentation and contractual requirements. Equipment Management & Leadership • Ensure all survey instruments including total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and levels are properly calibrated and maintained. • Coordinate survey operations with engineers, contractors, and site supervisors. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: • A Degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field. • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in construction or infrastructure surveying. • Experience working on roadworks, civil infrastructure, or large-scale projects. • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. CORE COMPETENCIES: • Demonstrated expertise in road alignment and chainage control. • Proficient in the use of surveying instruments and technologies, including total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and relevant survey and data processing software. • Strong understanding of earthworks measurement and cross-section analysis with proven ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings, technical specifications, and site layout plans to ensure accurate project execution. • Comprehensive understanding of quantity measurement practices and construction documentation requirements. • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to evaluate field data and address complex survey challenges. • High degree of precision, accuracy, and attention to detail in all surveying and measurement activities. • Strong communication and reporting skills, enabling effective collaboration with engineers, project managers, and site personnel. • Ability to work effectively in demanding construction environments, maintaining safety and operational efficiency. • Skilled in identifying, analyzing, and resolving survey discrepancies to ensure alignment with project specifications and design requirements.
