The Director, Retirement, Benefits & Wellbeing is a strategic leader within the HR Benefits Center of Excellence responsible for shaping and governing the global benefits strategy for DePuy Synthes. This role drives the design, execution, and continuous evolution of retirement, health and welfare, wellbeing, and allowance programs that support employee experience, workforce wellness, and organizational performance.

As the leader of a global benefits team, this individual establishes enterprise-wide benefits frameworks, develops policies and governance standards, and leads vendor and partner strategies to ensure competitive, compliant, and sustainable programs across diverse markets. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future employee value proposition of a standalone global MedTech organization while delivering meaningful impact on employees’ health, financial wellbeing, and overall quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • →Lead the development and execution of the global benefits strategy aligned with organizational priorities and workforce needs.
  • →Own the enterprise benefits governance model, ensuring consistency, compliance, risk management, and operational excellence across regions.
  • →Provide strategic leadership for global retirement programs, including defined benefit, defined contribution, savings, and financial wellbeing initiatives.
  • →Establish and advance the company’s employee wellbeing strategy, including physical, emotional, financial, and social wellbeing programs.
  • →Oversee the design and management of global health and welfare programs, ensuring market competitiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • →Direct the strategy, design, and governance of employee allowances and related benefits programs.
  • →Develop and maintain enterprise-wide benefits policies, standards, and frameworks that support a consistent employee experience globally.
  • →Lead global vendor strategy, including selection, governance, performance management, contract negotiations, and service optimization.
  • →Partner closely with HR Business Partners, Total Rewards, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and business leaders to drive benefits innovation and alignment.
  • →Utilize market intelligence, benchmarking, analytics, and employee insights to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend enhancements.
  • →Lead and develop a high-performing benefits team, fostering collaboration, talent development, and continuous improvement.
  • →Ensure effective communication and change management strategies that promote understanding and engagement with benefits programs.

Required:
  • 10+ years of experience leading global benefits, retirement, wellbeing, or total rewards programs.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing enterprise-wide benefits strategies and governance frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of retirement plans, health and welfare programs, wellbeing initiatives, benefits regulations, and related compliance requirements.
  • Experience leading global vendor management, contract negotiations, and strategic partnerships.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive enterprise-wide initiatives across complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills with experience using data to inform decisions.
  • Experience leading teams and developing talent in a global environment.
Preferred:
  • Experience leading benefits strategy within a large multinational healthcare, life sciences, MedTech, or manufacturing organization.
  • Knowledge of global benefits trends, wellbeing innovations, and emerging workforce expectations.
  • Experience supporting organizational transformation, mergers, acquisitions, or business separations.
  • Professional certifications such as CEBS, CBP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent.
  • Experience with benefits technology platforms, analytics tools, and digital employee experience solutions.
  • Strong project and change management capabilities.
  • Experience working across multiple geographic regions and regulatory environments.

  • Language Requirements: English proficiency required; additional languages are a plus.
  • Travel: Up to 20% domestic and international travel may be required.
  • Certifications: CEBS, CBP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent certifications preferred.
