Mechanical Engineer - Fleet Reliability and Operations (Hydroelectric industry)

This role supports the reliability, operation, rehabilitation, and service of hydroelectric turbine and generator equipment across a diverse fleet.
You’ll provide hands-on engineering support throughout project lifecycles, from site assessments and inspections through commissioning and warranty activities.
The position combines field engineering, technical problem-solving, customer interaction, and collaboration with experienced engineering teams.
You’ll help identify equipment issues, recommend corrective actions, and provide technical guidance during critical project and site activities.
The role also contributes to service projects involving condition assessments, spare parts, refurbishment, and partial unit rehabilitation.
With approximately 30% travel across the U.S. and occasional international collaboration, you’ll work closely with site teams, customers, and operations and maintenance stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the hydroelectric industry.

• Knowledge of hydro turbine and generator design and equipment erection methods.

• Ability to work effectively and independently in a remote environment while collaborating with a distributed engineering team.

• Strong technical communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers, site teams, and engineering colleagues.

• Strong problem-solving abilities, combining engineering principles with practical judgment and a hands-on approach.

• Proactive mindset with creativity, responsiveness, urgency, autonomy, and strong prioritization skills.

• Willingness and ability to travel throughout North America and internationally when required.

• Knowledge of engineering calculation methods related to strength of materials is an advantage.

• Experience with finite element analysis or simulation is an advantage.

• Knowledge of metallurgy and welding processes is an advantage.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.

• Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

• Must be willing to complete applicable pre-employment screening, including reference verification and background checks.
