This role provides technical mechanical engineering support to refinery assets, serving as a key point of contact for equipment reliability and mechanical integrity needs. You will troubleshoot emerging equipment issues, develop repair solutions, and work closely with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams. The position covers critical refinery equipment including piping, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers, with a strong focus on safe and reliable performance. You will apply recognized engineering codes, corrosion and failure knowledge, and reliability principles to practical equipment challenges. The role also offers exposure to maintenance planning, outages, turnarounds, inspection, and integrity management. Working in a collaborative technical environment, you will contribute to safe, lower-emission energy operations while continuing to develop your engineering expertise.
- Technical Support: Act as the primary mechanical engineering contact for assigned refinery assets, providing technical support for equipment reliability, mechanical integrity, maintenance, and operational needs.
- Equipment Troubleshooting: Investigate emerging equipment issues and support maintenance and operations teams with practical troubleshooting and engineering solutions.
- Repair Engineering: Design permanent and temporary repair solutions for piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and other mechanical equipment in accordance with applicable industry standards and codes.
- Engineering Standards: Apply relevant ASME and API standards to equipment design, repair, integrity assessments, and specifications.
- Corrosion and Failure Analysis: Use knowledge of corrosion damage mechanisms and failure modes to develop reliable and technically appropriate equipment solutions.
- Reliability Engineering: Apply reliability principles when assessing equipment condition and making recommendations regarding repairs and ongoing asset performance.
- Engineering Deliverables: Support piping and pressure vessel design, fitness-for-service assessments, field engineering activities, and other mechanical engineering deliverables.
- Maintenance Support: Assist asset maintenance teams in maintaining accurate preventive maintenance plans and effective equipment sparing strategies.
- Asset Health: Develop a strong understanding of refinery equipment and processes to support appropriate monitoring and assessment of unit health.
- Safety and Change Management: Support personal and process safety initiatives, including Management of Change activities, while consistently upholding a strong safety culture.
- Outages and Turnarounds: Provide mechanical engineering and integrity input for planned asset outages and turnaround activities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with maintenance, operations, inspection, and other engineering disciplines to address asset reliability and integrity challenges.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to effective technical practices and improved equipment reliability through sound engineering judgment and data-informed decision-making.
Requirements
~2 min read- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, with relevant knowledge and experience working with refinery equipment preferred.
- Experience: At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, with a total experience range of approximately 5–12 years.
- Refinery Experience: Prior experience working as a Mechanical Engineer at an oil refinery in an onsite environment is required.
- Refinery Fundamentals: Working knowledge of fundamental refinery processes, including distillation, heat transfer, and fluid systems.
- Piping Expertise: Good understanding of piping components and systems, particularly for equipment repairs, engineering specifications, and integrity applications.
- Engineering Codes: Practical application of ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, and ASME PCC-1/PCC-2, with supervised experience where applicable.
- Integrity Standards: Familiarity with NBIC, API 570, API 571, API 510, and API 579 Level 1 is advantageous and may be further developed on the job.
- Inspection Knowledge: Awareness of inspection techniques such as RT, UT, PT, and MT is desirable.
- Materials Knowledge: Awareness-level understanding of metallurgy and welding processes is beneficial.
- Digital and Systems Skills: Exposure to Management of Change processes, SAP, and GE APM is an advantage.
- Analytical Ability: Strong engineering judgment, problem-solving capability, and the ability to assess equipment conditions and develop practical solutions.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams across maintenance, operations, inspection, and engineering functions.
- Work Schedule: Ability to support the required shift schedule of 2:00 PM–11:00 PM IST.
- Travel: Willingness to travel up to 10% as required by the role.
