Sr. Network Engineer
Quick Summary
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Network Engineer based in the United States.
This is a senior individual contributor opportunity for an experienced network engineer looking to expand into software engineering. You’ll work on large-scale, distributed network environments within a growing cloud-based technology organization. The role combines hands-on network architecture, troubleshooting, authentication, automation, and device management with increasingly deeper software development responsibilities. You’ll initially serve as a network subject matter expert while partnering closely with experienced software engineers. Over time, you’ll take greater ownership of software services that interact with and control network infrastructure. This fully remote role offers the opportunity to build toward a hybrid network and software engineering skill set in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Design, configure, operate, and troubleshoot large-scale, multi-vendor network environments including routers, switches, gateways, and wireless access points.
- Manage and troubleshoot network authentication environments using RADIUS, AAA, 802.1X, EAP, certificate-based authentication, captive portals, and MAC-based authentication.
- Apply advanced knowledge of routing, switching, VLANs, NAT, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, QoS, and related networking technologies.
- Diagnose complex Layer 2–7 issues using packet captures, device logs, monitoring platforms, and system telemetry.
- Support distributed network deployments through centralized configuration, monitoring, firmware management, and device lifecycle processes.
- Develop Python, Bash, network scripting, and API-based automation for provisioning, configuration, authentication, monitoring, diagnostics, and device management.
- Build tools that improve network troubleshooting and translate network behavior and vendor capabilities into requirements for software services.
- Partner with software engineers to progressively design, develop, test, and maintain production services that interact with network infrastructure.
- Work with REST APIs, Linux environments, cloud infrastructure, and containerized services while contributing to architecture and technical design discussions.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, UX, and other cross-functional teams and participate in code reviews, testing, technical discovery, and Agile/Scrum development sprints.
- Incorporate security considerations into network architecture and software development practices and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
- Maintain technical documentation, network standards, architecture guides, troubleshooting procedures, and operational runbooks while mentoring team members and sharing network expertise.
