Tech Lead – AI Engineering
Quick Summary
Lead architectural decisions across the platform, document the rationale behind key choices, and ensure solutions remain scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives.
As a Senior Tech Lead in AI Engineering, you will lead the technical direction of strategic software development projects, combining hands-on engineering with architectural decision-making and team leadership. You will shape scalable solutions, establish engineering standards, and guide a team building modern applications with Java, React, and Microsoft Azure. A key part of the role involves integrating AI-assisted development into everyday workflows, ensuring productivity gains without compromising code quality, security, or maintainability. You will work closely with product, design, clients, and external integration partners to turn complex requirements into practical technical solutions. This fully remote opportunity offers significant autonomy, challenging engineering problems, and the chance to influence both product outcomes and team development.
-
Technical Architecture: Lead architectural decisions across the platform, document the rationale behind key choices, and ensure solutions remain scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives.
-
Engineering Leadership: Guide the development squad by establishing coding standards, conducting code reviews, maintaining quality expectations, and supporting a consistent delivery pace.
-
Hands-On Development: Actively contribute to implementation, working alongside the team to develop, review, troubleshoot, and improve production-quality software.
-
AI-Assisted Engineering Strategy: Define how the team uses AI development tools, including tool selection, review practices for AI-generated code, quality controls, and guidelines for situations where AI assistance is unsuitable.
-
Cloud Infrastructure and Deployment: Define strategies for containerization, deployment, observability, and infrastructure as code within Microsoft Azure.
-
Integration Management: Serve as the primary technical counterpart for external integration partners, anticipate dependency risks, and design resilient integration layers that protect the platform from unstable third-party contracts.
-
Asynchronous Processing: Design and guide reliable event-driven and asynchronous workflows using messaging and queueing technologies.
-
Product and Technical Alignment: Collaborate with product owners and designers to translate technical constraints into informed product decisions and turn product needs into feasible engineering solutions.
-
Data Architecture: Guide relational and non-relational database design, ensuring the appropriate technologies are selected based on performance, scalability, and application requirements.
-
Team Mentorship: Support the professional growth of engineers through mentoring, pair programming, knowledge sharing, and the communication of architectural and business context.
-
Risk and Quality Management: Balance delivery timelines with long-term technical sustainability, proactively identifying risks and proposing practical alternatives when trade-offs are necessary.
-
Continuous Improvement: Encourage experimentation, modern engineering practices, and continuous improvement across the development lifecycle.
Requirements
~2 min read-
Software Engineering Experience: Extensive experience in software development, including demonstrated responsibility for technically leading development squads and guiding engineering decisions.
-
Full Stack Development: Strong hands-on experience with Java on the backend and React on the frontend, with the ability to contribute meaningfully across the full application stack.
-
Cloud and Containerization: Practical experience with Docker, containerized applications, deployment processes, and operating workloads in Microsoft Azure.
-
Relational Databases: Deep understanding of relational database modeling, performance optimization, migrations, and data integrity.
-
Non-Relational Databases: Experience with non-relational databases and the ability to evaluate when relational or non-relational approaches are most appropriate.
-
Asynchronous Messaging: Experience with messaging and event-driven technologies such as RabbitMQ, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, or Kafka.
-
AI-Assisted Development: Regular, practical use of AI-powered software development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent solutions. You should understand where these tools accelerate delivery and where human judgment, review, and conventional engineering practices are essential.
-
Third-Party Integrations: Experience integrating external APIs and designing anti-corruption layers or similar architectural patterns to isolate systems from unstable external interfaces and changing contracts.
-
Technical Communication: Ability to explain and defend technical decisions clearly with clients and stakeholders, including communicating trade-offs, risks, and alternative approaches.
-
Ownership and Autonomy: A proactive mindset, strong accountability, and the ability to lead technical initiatives independently from design through implementation.
-
Adaptability: Comfort working with ambiguity, evolving requirements, and changing priorities while maintaining focus on delivery and technical quality.
-
Pragmatic Decision-Making: Ability to make sensible trade-offs, deliver within realistic timelines, and avoid compromising long-term maintainability unnecessarily.
-
Additional Advantage — Healthcare Technology: Experience with healthcare-related projects, sensitive data, and Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (LGPD).
-
Additional Advantage — Early-Stage Products: Experience developing minimum viable products (MVPs) and helping teams make architectural decisions under uncertainty.
-
Additional Advantage — Legacy Modernization: Experience working with legacy applications, monolithic architectures, and gradual modernization initiatives.
-
Additional Advantage — Multi-Cloud: Experience working across both Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
