Provide attentive, nurturing, and engaging care for the family's two older children, aged 6 years and 4 years. Confidently care
A warm and welcoming Upper East Side-based family is seeking an experienced, energetic, and proactive weekend nanny to join their household. The family has three children, aged 6 years, 4 years, and a newborn. While the nanny's primary responsibility will be caring for the two older children, they must also be confident and experienced in caring for newborns, and comfortable stepping in to support with the baby as needed.
The schedule will be Saturday and Sunday, from approximately 8 am to 8 pm. While this is initially a weekend position, there is significant potential for the role to expand into a more full-time arrangement as the family's needs evolve. This would involve working additional days to support their weekday nanny, while continuing to cover weekends. The family would ideally love to find someone open to growing with them and taking on additional days/hours over time.
The family would also ideally love to find a nanny who is available to accompany them to the UK over the Christmas period (approximately December 18th to January 4th), spending time in the Cotswolds and London. However, this is a preference rather than a requirement, and candidates unable to travel are still encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
~2 min readThe family places great importance on finding someone who will become a valued, long-term member of the household. They are hoping to welcome a nanny who is genuinely invested in the children and excited by the opportunity to grow with the family. Responsibilities will include:
- →Provide attentive, nurturing, and engaging care for the family's two older children, aged 6 years and 4 years.
- →Confidently care for the newborn as needed, including supporting with feeding, soothing, changing, and age-appropriate routines.
- →Plan and organise stimulating, age-appropriate activities, outings, and experiences, making the most of everything Manhattan has to offer.
- →Encourage creativity, independence, good manners, and positive behaviour through a warm and consistent approach.
- →Confidently establish and maintain appropriate boundaries while respecting the family's relaxed parenting style.
- →Support the children's daily routines, including mealtimes, personal care, and general organisation.
- →Prepare simple meals and snacks for the children, including reheating prepared food as needed.
- →Proactively anticipate the children's needs and adapt plans throughout the day.
- →Accompany the children to local activities and attractions, confidently navigating Manhattan and public transportation.
- →Maintain a tidy and organised environment in the children's immediate spaces.
- →Communicate openly with the parents and work collaboratively with other household staff.
- →Ideally, be open to providing additional weekday childcare support as the role develops.
Requirements
~2 min readThe ideal candidate will be confident, engaging, and naturally proactive, with the ability to plan exciting, age-appropriate activities and adapt to the family's flexible routines. The children are energetic and full of personality, so someone who can balance a fun, relaxed approach with gentle but consistent boundaries will thrive in this role. They should be equally comfortable engaging the older children in activities and providing attentive, knowledgeable care for the baby when required, seamlessly adapting to the family's needs throughout the day. Requirements include:
- Previous professional nanny experience, ideally caring for multiple children across different age groups.
- Strong, demonstrable experience caring for newborns and infants, with the confidence to independently manage their needs when required.
- A sound understanding of child development across infancy and early childhood.
- Experience confidently balancing the needs of children of different ages, while maintaining a calm and attentive approach.
- A warm, nurturing, energetic, and engaging personality.
- A proactive, resourceful, and flexible approach, with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
- Strong knowledge of Manhattan, including family-friendly activities, museums, parks, and public transportation.
Experience working with British or European families, or familiarity with a similar parenting approach, would be advantageous.
A genuine interest in establishing a long-term relationship with the family.
Legally authorised to work in the United States.
Fluent English speaker.
Available to work Saturdays and Sundays, approximately 8 am–8 pm.
Comfortable working in a fully staffed household and alongside an existing live-in nanny.
Confident and experienced in providing hands-on care for a newborn, despite the role being primarily focused on the older children.
Comfortable around dogs.
Strong, verifiable professional references.
Open to the possibility of increasing working hours and providing weekday support in the future, while retaining weekend availability.
Availability to travel to the UK over Christmas would be highly desirable but is not essential.
A valid passport and ability to travel internationally are advantageous but not required.
